Sources: 49ers, Fred Warner reach 3-year, $63M…

The San Francisco 49ers have solidified their defensive core by extending linebacker Fred Warner with a record-breaking three-year, \$63 million contract. This deal, announced on May 22, 2025, includes \$56 million in guaranteed money, making Warner the highest-paid linebacker in NFL history, surpassing the previous record held by Roquan Smith of the Baltimore Ravens .([San Francisco Chronicle][1], [Niners Nation][2])

Warner, 28, has been a cornerstone of the 49ers’ defense since being drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Over his career, he has accumulated 897 tackles, 10 sacks, and 10 interceptions, with 15 forced fumbles—second only to Hall of Famer Patrick Willis in franchise history . In the 2024 season, he led the team with 131 tackles, marking his seventh consecutive year as the 49ers’ top tackler .([Reuters][3])

This extension restructures Warner’s previous five-year, \$95.225 million contract to provide the team with salary cap relief, especially significant following quarterback Brock Purdy’s massive five-year, \$265 million deal . The 49ers have also secured other key players, including tight end George Kittle, who signed a four-year, \$76.4 million extension earlier this offseason .([San Francisco Chronicle][1], [Niners Nation][2])

By locking in these foundational players, the 49ers aim to strengthen their roster and improve upon a disappointing 6-11 season, with head coach Kyle Shanahan emphasizing the importance of united offseason preparation .([San Francisco Chronicle][1])
