The 23-year-old completed his £40million transfer to the Premier League club with the announcement being made alongside the tagline, “Don’t go to bed just yet”, which sparked fury on social media.

Rutter became a much-loved figure during his time at Elland Road, and while he is unlikely to know the context surrounding the message, fans have been left disappointed by the situation.

Though he is no longer a Leeds player, the Whites look to have hit back in their own way, ahead of the transfer announcement of Largie Ramazani from Almeria.

Posted on the club’s official X account [22 August], an X caption can be seen written on the laptop, saying “Marching on TOGETHER”, clearly aiming a dig at Rutter and his announcement at Brighton.

Clearly linking the announcement to Leeds’ very poor transfer window around 10 years ago, with the club tweeting the above quote before selling players and failing to bring anyone in, it is no wonder why fans are upset.

And until the recent updates surrounding Ramazani, fans at Elland Road will have been consumed with a rather similar feeling, with the likes of Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray departing and few replacements being signed. With eight days until the transfer window slams shut, however, fans will need to remain patient as Daniel Farke waits for more new faces to come through the doors at Elland Road.

It is a massive shame that Rutter’s spell with the Whites has come to such a sour end, especially with it not being his fault either, and it could get uglier if either club says anything further.

In other Leeds United news, a Rolland Sallai transfer update has emerged ahead of the August 30 deadline.

Dan Bardell believes Leeds United will struggle this season if they don’t sign a replacement for Georginio Rutter.

The Frenchman confirmed a move to the Seagulls on 19 August in a deal worth £40million after his release clause was activated [David Ornstein, 14 August].

The Whites have looked to replace the 22-year-old with the likes of Jack Clarke and Manuel Benson but are yet to complete a deal with time running out in the window.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has urged Leeds to reinvest the fee from Rutter in attacking areas to give them hope of a positive season.

Daniel Farke’s squad is in a bit of a mess right now with a large drop-off in quality from the squad that so nearly got promoted last season.

The Whites narrowly missed out to Southampton at Wembley and things have only gone downhill since.
