A trio of Georgia football linemen announce transfer destinations

Three of Georgia football’s transfers have committed to their new schools.

Defensive lineman Jonathan Jefferson, offensive lineman Austin Blaske and pass rusher C.J. Madden all announced their transfer destinations.

Jefferson, who was one of the first Bulldogs to enter the portal, announced he was transferring to Southern Methodist University on Dec. 12. The 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive lineman registered only one tackle this season and six in the three seasons he was with the Bulldogs.

The former four-star prospect from the 2021 class was expected to have a bigger role with the Bulldogs but saw his playing time drop drastically throughout the season. Jefferson joins an SMU team that recently went 11-2 and won the American Athletic Conference championship.

The Mustangs could be losing several players on the defensive line as all but one of their rotational defensive linemen are seniors including Elijah Chatman, the unit’s leading tackler and Elijah Roberts, the team’s leader in sacks. Jefferson could provide a significant upgrade for SMU in a spot where the team appears thin for the 2024 season.

Blaske, who announced his decision to enter the portal the same day as Jefferson, announced on Dec. 15 his decision to transfer to the University of North Carolina. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman has spent time as a depth piece at every position on the offensive line and has spent the most time at center and tackle.
