The Miami Hurricanes have one of the top running backs in the country set to arrive soon.

Jordan Lyle, the 6th ranked running back in the class of 2024 per On3 Sports, flipped his commitment from Ohio State to Miami in December. He signed with the Hurricanes and will enroll this summer.

Bruce Warner and I sat down with former Miami running backs coach and UM Sports Hall of Famer Don Soldinger on my Locked On Canes podcast. Soldinger is very impressed with Lyle.

Coach Soldinger also spoke to us about his time at Miami, his surpising firing by Larry Coker, and insights on some of the top players he coached at The U.

Soldinger recently met Lyle at a high school football awards ceremony. “He just has the right attitude,” Soldinger said. “We talked about what’s going on at Miami and why he wanted to stay. He just has the right attitude. He told me he wants to earn everything he gets. He sounds like an old-time Hurricane. I was really enthralled by that because (most) kids now are a little bit different, all wrapped up in themselves. He has the right kind of attitude. (Miami) is doing something right in recruiting. These kids want to get back to the old style of UM football.”

Lyle put up impressive stats at STA in his senior season. He ran for 1,376 yards and 21 touchdowns, averaging more than 10 yards per carry. Lyle eclipsed the 100 yard mark eight times.

Soldinger also weighed in on Miami’s overall running back room for next season.

“They have a (running back) room like I had,” Soldinger noted. While at Miami, he coached future NFL standouts like Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Najee Davenport, Frank Gore and others. “Competition is the thing that makes you good.”
