Tonight sees the beginning of the NBA Playoffs, with the Play-In Tournaments to decide the final two seeds in each conference beginning. Over the next couple months, 20 teams will whittle themselves down to 16, and then eventually to this year’s NBA Champion sometime in June.

Before things get going tonight, let’s take a look at the North Carolina Tar Heels who are taking part in this year’s postseason and hoping to lead their teams to glory.

Carolina will have a couple players taking part in said Play-In Tournament, including one game tonight.

Tonight, in the #9 vs. #10 seed game, Harrison Barnes will look to help the Kings keep their season alive against the Warriors. After Sacramento made the playoffs as a #3 seed last year, they slipped back to the pack this year, and now will need to win two play-in games to get back into the full playoffs. To do so, they’ll need to beat Barnes’ former teammates and the Warriors team that knocked them out last year. While not the Kings #1 option or anything, Barnes has played and started every game for them this season, averaging 12.2 points, while knocking down 38.7% of his three-pointers.

Over in the Eastern Conference, Coby White will be trying to help the Bulls advance out of the the play-ins. This has been a bit of a breakout season for White, as he’s set career best totals of 19.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, including a new career-best 37 points on March 4th. White and Bulls have their work cut out for them, as they would need to beat the Hawks on Wednesday and then the Heat/76ers loser on Friday, just for the right to play a dominant Celtics team, but even still, it’s been an incredible season for White.

Speaking of breakout seasons, the Orlando Magic have had one, helped by Cole Anthony. With 47 wins, the Magic have had their best season since 2010-11 as they nabbed the #5 seed in the Eastern Conference. Anthony was a key bench piece for Orlando, scoring 11.6 points per game as the sixth man and leader of their bench unit. The Magic will take on the Cleveland Cavaliers in round one, who have a Tar Heel themselves in Pete Nance, albeit he’s on a two-way contract and unlikely to see any sort of important playing time.

Over in the Western Conference, Nassir Little also occupies a bench role for a Suns team that has some hopes at a decent run. Phoenix won 10 of their last 14 games to end the regular season, including crushing the Timberwolves team that they’re now set to take on in the first round. Sadly, Little hasn’t been massive involved in that, averaging only a couple minutes per game recently. However for the season, he’s played over 10 minutes per game, averaging 3.4 points per game.

Sadly a couple other Tar Heels just missed out, with Cam Johnson’s Nets and Reggie Bullock’s Rockets both finishing just on their conference’s bubble in 11th place. While no former Carolina players are quite the stars of their teams, UNC is still decently represented this postseason.
