Celtic tipped to be able to sign ‘frustrated’ 23-year-old on loan in January

Report: Celtic Eye Deadline Day Deal For Sydney Van Hooijdonk | Latest Celtic News

Celtic have been tipped to land Dutch striker, Sydney van Hooijdonk on loan in January after Mark Guidi said that he seems to be frustrated at Bologna.

The journalist was discussing recent reports linking Celtic with a move for the Serie A striker when he said that a deal could possibly be struck in the coming transfer window.

Guidi said [The Go Radio Football Show], “He’s been linked with Celtic for three years on and off. But it seems to be that he is a bit frustrated at a lack of game time and not starting in many games.

“And considering that there’s no doubt Celtic’s in the market for a striker, could that be one that’s permanent?

“It might suit all parties a loan deal in January with a view to making it permanent, I’m not so sure.

“Obviously his dad being who he was and his dad was terrific for Celtic too. So yeah, that could be one that certainly would be on the radar.”

TBR Celtic discussed this morning whether or not we believed van Hooijdonk would be good enough to play for Celtic.

At just 23, the young Dutchman still has time on his side to develop into a good player and to follow in his father’s footsteps he would need to.

Pierre was a superb striker for the club back in his day and he has no doubts that his son could also become a very good player in his own right.’

It is clear that Celtic need cover up top. Kyogo Furuhashi‘s injury just prior to the international break exposed a vulnerability in Brendan Rodgers‘ squad and it seems they are determined to strengthen in the January window.

Whether van Hooijdonk is the man to do strengthen Celtic is another debate entirely. With Hyeongyu Oh discovering his shooting boots, the Dutch striker could find himself in the same position that he does at his current club.

Would he be willing to take the risk and move to another side where he is not guaranteed first-team football? It’s highly unlikely but at least with a loan move he and Celtic, get to test the water.

After all, it’s a model that’s served Celtic well so far. What is there to lose?
