Deion Sanders Issues Stern New Warning To Colorado Buffaloes College Football Recruits

Deion Sanders issued a stern new warning to Colorado Buffaloes recruits at his press conference Tuesday. Sanders hopes the 2024 recruiting class can improve the Buffaloes program from where they finished this season. They’re currently 4-7 with one game left to play Saturday against Utah.

Sanders said earlier this season he is explicitly looking to add offensive linemen either in the 2024 class or through the transfer portal. Sanders lost his only offensive line commitment this weekend when Talan Chandler flipped to Missouri last weekend.

According to 24/7 Sports, Colorado’s 2024 recruiting class is ranked 70th in the country. Those last two sentences should cause Sanders to be concerned about next season. But if Sanders is worried, he’s not showing any willingness to budge after a statement he made about NIL money.

According to David Ubben with The Athletic, Sanders said Colorado is not an “ATM” and that players shouldn’t come to Boulder in the hopes to strike it rich on campus:

We’re not an ATM. That’s not gonna happen here,” Sanders said Tuesday. “If you come to Colorado to play football for me and the Colorado Buffaloes, it’s because you really want to play football and receive a wonderful education.

“All the business stuff will be handled on the backend. But we are not an ATM. You’re not coming here to get rich unless you’re really coming here with a plan to go to the NFL and get your degree. Not to come here and be Moneybagg Yo. That’s a rapper, right?”

Sanders’ message appears to be at odds with how Buffaloes players are flashing their money this season. Multiple players claimed their jewelry was stolen at the Rose Bowl when they played UCLA. Shedeur Sanders made headlines this fall when a Colorado parking employee booted his $400,000 Rolls Royce.

Colorado has been the loudest college program taking about bling this season. Recruits will want more than $20 bills coming from an ATM.

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders plans to make significant changes to his roster before his second season with the program.

The Buffaloes (4–7) have lost their past five games after starting the season 3-0 in Sanders’s first season with the program. Although the Pro Football Hall of Famer is aware of the shortcomings on his current roster, he said he does not plan on “paying” for players to fix the problem.

After Colorado hired Sanders to replace Karl Dorrell in December, he massively overhauled the Buffaloes roster, bringing in 57 transfers after the Buffaloes’ spring game. Ahead of the ’23 season, Sanders defended his decision to retool the roster, saying “it had to be done” and that he needed players who loved football after the program went 1–11 in ’22 under Dorrell and interim coach Mike Sanford.
