Heartbreak for Miami Dolphins’ Jaelan Phillips as he is carted off in tears at MetLife with Achilles tear… after battling to reach the NFL despite being medically retired due to concussions in his college career

Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips left the field in tears after suffering a heartbreaking Achilles tear during the 34-13 win in the Black Friday game against the New York Jets.

While attempting to get out of his stance at the start of a play in the fourth quarter Phillips quickly went down with a non-contact injury before being carted off the field.

A replay of the injury seemed to show a reverberation up his calf and shortly after he was taken away, Miami officially announced that Phillips had indeed suffered an Achilles injury.

While he was down on the turf, the entire Dolphins bench entered the field to surround him while he received early treatment from medical staff.

After being loaded onto the cart, Amazon Prime’s TV cameras caught images of him sobbing into a towel as he was driven down the tunnel at MetLife Stadiu

The Dolphins had originally selected Phillips in the first round of the 2021 draft with the No. 18 overall pick.

Before suffering his injury, Phillips had been turning in a solid performance against the division rival Jets and was in impressive form over the past few weeks.

He had recorded four tackles with three of those for a loss, and also had a sack to his name.

Leading into the game he had picked up 5.5 sacks and 39 tackles throughout the season, after battling back from injuries that nearly ended his career.

Phillips previously retired from the sport due to concussions issues during his time in college at UCLA, before getting back on the field after transferring to the University of Miami.

The 24-year-old edge rusher was not the only Dolphins defender to pick up an injury as safety Jevon Holland was ruled questionable to return after picking up a knee issue.

Earlier in the game Holland had made an incredible 99-yard interception return for a touchdown on a Hail Mary with only two seconds left in the first half.
