Celtic target Portuguese winger Tiago Araujo as January signing
Exclusive: Araújo has played as both a left-back and left winger this season – plus, Uruguay defender attracting Premier League interest
Celtic are trying to seal a deal for Portuguese winger Tiago Araújo for the start of the January transfer window.
Araújo, 22, has been playing for Estoril in the Primeira Liga this season as a left-back and left-sided midfielder, alerting the Scottish champions with his performances after moving from Benfica 18 months ago.
He has been the subject of enquiries from Celtic, who are looking at a deal worth around £4million to land the former Portugal Under-21 international.
Brendan Rodgers was active in the market in his first summer back at Celtic but would also like to strengthen in January, with Araújo able to fill multiple positions on the left flank.
Araújo started at Benfica, playing for their B team and getting loaned out to Arouca, also in the top flight, before completing his move to Estoril in 2022 where he made regular appearances in his first season.
Uruguay centre-back on Premier League radar
Uruguay centre-back Sebastián Cáceres has put himself on the radar of Europe’s top clubs after his performances during World Cup qualifiers this season.
The 24-year-old is playing in Club América and teams, including those in the Premier League looking at centre-backs, are aware that he has one year left on his contract with his Mexican club.
He was in the team that kept a clean sheet against world champions Argentina during the last international break and during qualifiers has not been successfully dribbled past. In these matches he has been top of the list of duels won and tackles made in his team.
Arsenal give chance to England U17 forward
England U17 forward Mason Cotcher has been training with the first-team squad at Arsenal after leaving Sunderland.
Rangers are also interested in signing the 17-year-old and moving “cross-border” to Scotland would be for much lower compensation than to an English team. Mikel Arteta invited him for sessions with his senior players last week.
