iami’s Rueben Bain, Jr. named ACC Defensive Rookie of the year

The defensive lineman earned the title after grabbing 37 Total tackles and 7.5 sacks in his Freshman season.

Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Rueben Bain, Jr. was named Wednesday the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Defensive Rookie of the Year after leading the team in sacks and tackles for loss.

Meanwhile, North Carolina State wide receiver Kevin “KC” Concepcion was announced as the ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year as well as the Rookie of the Year.

The award comes after the ‘Canes lineman posted a total of 37 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 7.5 sacks in his freshman season.

Bain, who came in second as the ACC Rookie of the Year, is the only freshman in the nation to have multiple individual performances of at least two sacks this year.

Despite the Miami Hurricanes disappointing 7-5 season, Bain anchored one of the stingiest front lines in the conference, giving up the second-fewest rushing yards among ACC teams and finished ranked 12th nationally in the run defense, allowing 97.1 yards per game, according to the ACC.

This new award will go nicely next to Bain’s two Defensive Lineman of the Week and his one ACC Rookie of the week awards.

Hurricanes wide receiver Frank Ladson Jr. reportedly enters transfer portal

Another Miami Hurricanes player is entering the transfer portal.

Veteran wide receiver Frank Ladson Jr. is leaving Miami after two seasons with the team, 247Sports reported Wednesday. He is the fifth player to announce that they are entering the portal or reportedly leave UM via the portal during this postseason, joining offensive players like Don Chaney Jr. and Tyler Van Dyke.

Ladson is looking for his third college program after initially transferring from Clemson to Miami before the 2022 season.

Ladson was a four-star recruit coming out of Homestead South Dade and transferred to the Hurricanes after racking up 428 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 31 catches over three seasons with the Tigers.

Ladson was a starting receiver for Miami last year, making nine starts and playing in all 12 games. He had 468 offensive snaps and made 27 catches for 298 yards.

He slid down UM’s depth chart this year and played just 23 offensive snaps. He had no catches. His biggest play this season was recovering an onside kick to start the second half against Florida State in Miami’s eventual loss.
