Atlanta acquires new star players in the outfield and more
Braves after Dark!!!
That has been the theme for the Braves when it comes to trades so far this offseason. A few weeks ago, it was making the move for Aaron Bummer in exchange for Michael Soroka and others. This time around, the Braves make their play for a short and potentially long-term solution for left field in Jarred Kelenic through a multi-player trade with the Seattle Mariners.
Simply put, the Braves made a move that could potentially suffice multiple needs at a very lower overall cost. Without a doubt, the key to taking on the money owed to Marco Gonzales and Evan White was the ability to acquire Kelenic to try and find a long-term answer for left field. But in Gonzales, Atlanta could have found another veteran option for their rotation in 2024. Furthermore, due to the low cost the Braves paid in terms of the trade package they sent (though Cole Phillips is a notable prospect), Atlanta could still be in the market for a significant arm as the offseason continues.
While this deal may be more unique compared to others, it feels like another deal that could wind up being very good for Atlanta as time goes on. And the fun thing is, the Winter Meetings are just getting started.
Per Alex Anthopoulos, the move for Kelenic is likely the final move to address the Braves left field situation moving forward
Earlier in the day at the Winter Meetings, Alex Anthopoulos discussed many topics in relation to the offseason, including shutting down any take of trading current core pieces and the plan for Vaughn Grissom.
In the season review series, Blake Burkhalter was the prospect in focus Sunday.
In Double Duty on Sunday, Brad Rowland and Scott Coleman dive into the detailsover the Winter Meetings and the trade with the Mariners.
The latest on Shohei Ohtani suggests his free agency journey could come to an end over the next several days with a deal that could exceed $500M.
The Giants could be emerging as a potential landing spot for Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
As for the Mariners, they could have interest in a potential deal for the Rays for Isaac Paredes and/or Randy Arozarena.
Former Manager Jim Leyland was voted into the MLB Hall of Fame by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee.
