Chicago bears is reportedly interested in Eric Bieniemy
What’s the latest with the Chicago Bears?
There are still five games left this season, but the focus has shifted to what’s going to be an offseason filled with some important decisions. That starts at the top with head coach, where Chicago will decide whether to retain Matt Eberflus or move on after two underperforming seasons (7-22). According to Josina Anderson, one of the names expected to interest the Bears is Washington Commanders assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Here’s a look at the most recent and relevant Bears stories for the morning of Dec. 6.

If Chicago opts to move on from Eberflus, the Bears are expected to have interest in Washington Commanders assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy — among others — according to Josina Anderson.
Since Eberflus was hired as head coach in 2022, the Bears have gone 7-22, including some franchise-worst losing streaks — 14 consecutive losses and 10 consecutive home losses, which have since been broken. It certainly feels like we’re nearing the end of the Eberflus era.
Bieniemy, 54, served as the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs under Andy Reid from 2018-22. Bears general manager Ryan Poles served in the Chiefs front office during that span, so it’s a move that would make sense.
Last offseason, Bieniemy took the offensive coordinator job with Washington, where he got the opportunity to call plays away from Reid and got promoted to assistant head coach.
With that in mind, the Commanders haven’t exactly been an offensive powerhouse under Bieniemy. Washington is averaging 20.1 points (21st in NFL) and 336.2 yards (16th) per game. But he’s done good work with quarterback Sam Howell, who is second in the NFL in passing yards (3,466) behind Texans rookie C.J. Stroud. Bieniemy would likely get a rookie quarterback to work with (or Justin Fields, if Chicago opts to stick with the former first-round quarterback).
