Tyrod Taylor loses job due to injury once again, unhappy with Tommy DeVito being named starter

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll made the decision on Tuesday.

Tyrod Taylor has had some terrible injury luck throughout his career.

tyrod Taylor has carved out a career in the NFL that he can look back on one day and be proud of. But if there’s anything he will lament, it will be not getting more opportunities to be a team’s starting quarterback for an extended period of time.

When he got the chance with the Buffalo Bills, he performed admirably. He turned that into a starting job with the Cleveland Browns, but he was replaced by first overall pick Baker Mayfield after he suffered a Week 3 concussion. He never got the job back from Mayfield.

He then went to the Los Angeles Chargers, where he entered the 2020 season as the team’s starter post-Philip Rivers. Taylor suffered a rib injury before Week 2, and it was later revealed that the team doctor punctured Taylor’s lung by accident with a painkiller injection. Rookie Justin Herbert was outstanding in Taylor’s absence and took the starting job from him.

The next season, while with the Houston Texans, Taylor took over as the starter for an in-trouble Deshaun Watson. In Week 2, a hamstring injury landed him on injured reserve. This time, he did get his job when he came back from injury. But a poor string of performances led to him getting benched for rookie Davis Mills in Week 13.

Taylor then came to the New York Giants, where he’s been the backup when Daniel Jones is healthy. When Jones went down with a season-ending neck injury, Taylor stepped in as the interim starter.

But once again, Taylor suffered an injury – this time, four broken ribs. And once again, he has lost his starting job. Giants head coach Bran Daboll confirmed on Tuesday that Tommy DeVito will remain the starter even with Taylor being activated off injured reserve.

In the locker room following Daboll’s press conference, Taylor was asked questions about the decision and responded with a “no comment” on a couple of occasions.

Taylor is reportedly “disappointed” and said it “hurts”. Who can blame him? Taylor has played well this season when he’s been on the field.

Daboll mentioned that he “just thought Tommy earned it”. DeVito has been solid over the past two games, both wins over the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots
