Yankees ‘Clamoring’ For Young Star This Offseason In Free Agency

The New York Yankees are looking to make another major splash.

New York has made the biggest move of the offseason to this point — not involving two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani — and it sounds like it is attempting to make arguably an even bigger one.

The Yankees boosted their offense in a major way this offseason by trading for former San Diego Padres superstar Juan Soto. Now they’re attempting to improve their starting rotation by adding Orix Buffaloes ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. New York reportedly will meet with him Monday and are “clamoring” for his services, according to USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale.

“Prized free agent pitcher Yoshinobu Yamomoto is finding himself in a dream situation having the New York Yankees, (New York Mets), and (Los Angeles Dodgers) all clamoring for his services,” Nightengale said. “Mets owner Steve Cohen and president David Stearns flew to Japan to meet with Yamomoto last week and the Yankees are scheduled to meet with him Monday.”

Now with Ohtani signing with the Dodgers, Yamamoto is the biggest name available in free agency. He has had a massive market already and could see a total price tag over $300 million. Many speculated the price tag would be around $200 million but as the offseason has progressed the number has only climbed.
