Heisman Trophy voting: Michigan’s Blake Corum, J.J. McCarthy receive first-place votes

Despite not receiving invites to New York as Heisman Trophy finalists, Michigan football stars Blake Corum and J.J. McCarthy each received first-place votes for college football’s top individual award.

On Saturday, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels won the Heisman over finalists Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix and Marvin Harrison Jr. from Washington, Oregon and Ohio State, respectively. Corum and McCarthy finished ninth and 10th in the voting with three and one first-place votes, respectively.

Corum rushed for 1,028 yards and a nation-leading 24 touchdowns this season on 218 carries, whereas McCarthy threw for 2,630 yards with 19 touchdowns to four interceptions.

Although No. 1 Michigan (13-0, 9-0 Big Ten) didn’t have a Heisman finalist, it does have a chance at winning a national championship as it takes on No. 4 Alabama (12-1, 8-0 SEC) at the Rose Bowl in the College Football Playoff semifinals on New Year’s Day.
