Brock Bowers “Not Sure” About Orange Bowl Status

On Tuesday, tight end Brock Bowers offered thoughts on what’s next for him as Georgia prepares to face Florida State in the Orange Bowl.

With Georgia’s Orange Bowl matchup with Florida State on Dec. 30 rapidly approaching, news about which Bulldog players will be available for the game is beginning to trickle out. On Tuesday, star tight end Brock Bowers provided an ambiguous update on his status for the Orange Bowl.

Bowers took time to answer questions following an event at Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School in Athens on Tuesday and when asked specifically about his status for the Orange Bowl, the two-time Mackey Award winner offered up an inconclusive response regarding his availability for Georgia’s game against Florida State saying, “we’ll see. I don’t know.”

While that initial response did not clarify Bowers’ intentions, he further explained that he has not fully removed himself from the Georgia program.

“I’m around, going to meetings and doing everything with the team,” Bowers said about his current activities.

Still, regardless of how much he has been around the team in the leadup to the Orange Bowl, Bowers again equivocated as to whether he plans to suit up for, presumably, one final time as a Bulldog.

“I’m not sure yet,” Bowers said when pushed again about his Orange Bowl status. “I’ve got people to talk to and stuff like that.”

Bowers’s comments come on the heels of quarterback Carson Beck announcing his intentions to both play in the Orange Bowl and return to Georgia for the 2024 season. The three-time All-American, who missed three games during the 2023 season with a high ankle sprain, is widely considered to be a future top-10 selection in the 2024 NFL draft. The progress of his continued recovery from the ankle injury along with his promising NFL future are combined to complicate the decision, but, for the time being Bowers has left the door open for him to play in Georgia’s 2023 finale potentially.
