Young will have one year of eligibility at Georgia. He spent the previous two seasons at Miami. As a junior during the 2023 season, Young caught 47 passes for 563 yards and 5 touchdowns. Young brings tremendous size to the Bulldogs, as he is listed at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds.

“Thank you Miami coaches and teammates for everything,” Young said in an Instagram post. “Y’all made the experience amazing and I’m extremely grateful. Thank you to my agent, family, friends, etc. for supporting me through this decision. With that being said I have decided to transfer and am committing to University of Georgia.”

Georgia has now brought in two wide receivers via the transfer portal, as the Bulldogs landed Vanderbilt wide receiver London Humphreys as well. Georgia has now brought in four wide receivers via the transfer portal in the last two years, with Georgia landing Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett a season ago.

The Bulldogs signed two wide receivers in the 2024 recruiting cycle, landing 4-star wide receiver Nitro Tuggle and 3-star wide receiver Sacovie White. Georgia also picked up a commitment from South Carolina defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod.

“Yeah, I’m excited about all those guys. Certainly you build your wideout room through high school,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “We feel like we should build every room through high school, but over the last I guess 2-3 years we’ve gone into the portal and been able to get some experienced wideouts. I think that’s critical. I do think you can play early in college football at wideout.

“You know, we need more depth at receiver. It’s a position that we’re thin at that we’ve got to have enough people to surround Carson (Beck) with to create weapons.”

As for what Georgia returns at the wide receiver position, the Bulldogs are waiting on NFL decisions from Ladd McConkey, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Arian Smith, Lovett and Thomas. Georgia has seen four wide receivers transfer out of the program, though only Jackson Meeks and Yazeed Haynes were on scholarship. Both of those players will be at Syracuse next year.

Dillon Bell will be back for another year at Georgia, while the Bulldog will look to get more out of rising sophomores Tyler Williams and Anthony Evans.

This is not the first time Georgia has landed a transfer wide receiver from Miami, as the Bulldogs brought in Lawrence Cager for the 2019 season. He was very productive for Georgia, catching 33 passes for 476 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Bulldogs in nine games that season.

Georgia adds Miami transfer WR Colbie Young

Georgia has lost 18 players to the transfer portal at this point, with 16 of them being on scholarship. Smart spoke about the portal and how it at times can be a good thing for both programs and players.

“The portal is a good thing. Let’s don’t make it a negative,” Smart said. “If you’ve been in a program for three years and you’re not playing and you don’t feel like you’re going to play or you don’t feel like you’re being developed and it doesn’t look great, you might need to look somewhere else. And that’s an OK thing, OK? It’s when you’re a first-year and you’re doing that, it becomes a little bit, you know, more alarming. Why did you go there in the first place? You never really gave it a chance to grow.”B
