Quentin Westberg has had some of the most flawless hair of any player in Toronto FC history.

Atlanta United has re-signed the former Toronto FC goalkeeper for a one-year contract, extending his stay through the 2024 Major League Soccer season.

After spending four years with Toronto FC, where he made 68 appearances and was the Reds’ goalkeeper during their 2019 MLS Cup run, Westberg joined the Five Stripes prior to the 2023 season.

Re-signing Westberg follows Atlanta’s signing of free agency Josh Cohen last week, where he will once more be the backup goalie. Unless Brad Guzan decides to retire at age 39, Cohen is expected to challenge the club icon and captain for the starting spot.

Guzan had an MCL tear that required him to miss eight games early in the 2023 season. After replacing the injured Westberg for six games, the team defeated the Colorado Rapids 4-0 at home while giving up ten goals and keeping one clean sheet.

Atlanta had two wins, two ties, and two loses in Westberg’s six games.

Atlanta signed Westberg as its third free agent of the summer. Cohen and native defender Garrison Tubbs were both added by the Five Stripes. CEO and President Garth Lagerway, along with Bocanegra, are concentrating on fortifying the defense for head coach Gonzalo Pineda, while Thiago Almada, a highly sought-after World Cup champion and outstanding midfielder, has an uncertain future even if his contract with Atlanta runs until the 2025 season.
