Breaking: surprise, the Michigan Wolverines are modest favorites against the…..
To no one’s surprise, the Michigan Wolverines are modest favorites against the Washington Huskies in the upcoming college football national championship game.
After opening as 3.5-point favorites, odds have moved a bit and settled on Michigan -4.5 at BetMGM Sportsbook.
Washington got as high as five-point underdogs, with almost everyone backing Jim Harbaugh’s group, but there was finally some pushback by bettors who bought the dip on the Huskies.
“All Michigan money early,” Jeffrey Benson, director of the influential shop Circa Sportsbook, posted on X.
Circa has massive influence in the market as a Las Vegas sportsbook as they welcome the action of many of the betting world’s sharpest minds and moneymakers.
It is very likely that oddsmakers will be fans of Michael Penix’s group come Monday with the public all over the Wolverines.
“The sportsbook will likely need Washington to cover and the under in the championship game,” Tristan Davis, senior manager trading at BetMGM, told The Post in an email.
As of Tuesday morning, 69 percent of the handle was on Michigan -4.5 at BetMGM.
The total opened up at 55.5 and is holding steady at that number, with the Huskies’ defense looking unfit to stop a nosebleed Monday against Texas.
A wild 94 percent of the money is on the over 55.5 points in the early going.
But the number hasn’t moved to 56 yet, so perhaps the action isn’t large enough or the bettors just aren’t at that level of respect from the books.
Michigan, who opened at +1000 to win the National Championship earlier this year, is -190 to win it all, with Washington coming in at +150.
We will find out which team reigns supreme in six days at NRG Stadium in Houston with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
