Breaking: Alabama Loses A Key Man To Top 50 Recruit Portal…..
The Alabama Crimson Tide had their season end in heartbreaking fashion. An overtime loss to Michigan was marred with execution errors and missed opportunities. After many of the weekend’s bowl games, we have seen another wave of players entering the transfer portal. Alabama wide receiver and former Top 50 recruit Shazz Preston announced he is entering the transfer portal.
In the 2022 class, On3 had Preston as the 50th-ranked recruit overall and the number sixth ranked wide receiver. As with many young players, the lack of playing time is likely why they are looking for another program. Preston saw the field but mostly on special teams because of the depth at the wide receiver position. There is no doubt that the talented receiver will get a lot of looks in the portal by a lot of programs.
Preston is not the first player to enter the portal because of a lack of playing time. The larger programs are seeing their top-tier freshmen entering the portal because they know they can get playing time elsewhere and then transfer again if they want to. Will we start to see some pressure put on coaches to play their top recruits sooner to try and keep them in the building? It will be an interesting thing to monitor as this seems to becoming commonplace in college football.
Can Alabama make it back to the top of the college football world in 2024? Nick Saban is always in the mix though the SEC is never easy to get through.
