Breaking: Former 76ers Champion Discourage Top Man To Move T…..
With the trade deadline a little over a month a way, the Philadelphia 76ers have a few more weeks to look for upgrades to the roster. One analyst recently shared his thoughts on them going after a two-time All-Star.
During a recent episode of NBA Today, a discussion broke out about Pascal Siakam following the OG Anunoby trade to the New York Knicks. That is where Kendrick Perkins shared his thoughts on the Sixers going after the versatile forward.
“I’m looking at Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid and what I’m looking at? I’m looking at a team that is missing a third star,” Perkins said. “We know what Pascal Siakam can do in a Nick Nurse system, that’s what helped them bring a championship. They did it together. When I think about the Philadelphia 76ers and I think about adding that piece to the duo of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, send him to Philly.”
Siakam, who will turn 30 later this year, is still playing at an All-Star-level for the Raptors. In 34 games, he is averaging 22.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 4.9 APG.
From a fit perspective, there are positives and negatives for a player like Siakam. As Perkins mentioned, he’s proven in the past that he is capable of being the second-best player on a championship team. However, his inconsistent three-point shooting could impact the offense at times next to Embiid and Maxey. So far this season, Siakam is shooting 28.8% from deep on 3.7 attempts per game.
One thing that might entice the Sixers to make a move like this is Siakam’s contract. Since he is a free agent at the end of the year, the team can potentially upgrade the roster while maintaining future flexibility. If the fit doesn’t work, they can simply let him walk in the summer.
76ers’ Nick Nurse Explains Tyrese Maxey’s Strong Case for All-Star Nod
Last season, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey was viewed as a potential first-time All-Star heading into the year. Unfortunately, an injury sidelined him for more than a month during the opening stages of the season, derailing that progress. Now in year four, Maxey has yet to gain his first All-Star nod. But once again, he was considered a potential first-timer heading into the 2023-2024 season, and the first returns of fan votes prove that he’s on the right track to earning that accomplishment. In the first fan returns that were revealed on Thursday afternoon, Maxey placed fifth for Eastern Conference guards in voting with 480,062 votes. He trails Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell, Atlanta’s Trae Young, Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard, and Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton. As far as the players behind him, Maxey has a 105,614-vote lead over New York’s Jalen Brunson. Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball, Boston’s Derrick White, Chicago’s DeMar DeRozan, and Boston’s Jrue Holiday fill out the rest of the top ten behind Maxey and Brunson. When the Sixers wrapped up their practice session on Thursday afternoon, the team’s head coach, Nick Nurse, addressed the All-Star race shortly before the first wave of votes was revealed. Knowing that Maxey could potentially be on pace to secure his first nod in the big showcase, the head coach explained why his starting point guard has a solid case. “I think everybody’s certainly seen he had another big step up for him,” Nurse told reporters on Thursday. “For me, I put a lot of stock in where your team is in the standings. … For me, that’s like way up there. Start at the top, and you start looking at who is impacting the teams that are winning big time. I lessen that a lot at the other end of it. His numbers say that he’s really close or there. Our team’s success, I think, has a lot to do with it. I think he’s making a very, very strong case.” Through his first 32 games of action, Maxey has averaged 26 points, four rebounds, and six assists per game. He’s on pace to surpass his career-highs in all of those categories. Not only has he improved his volume of scoring while maintaining stellar efficiency, but Maxey has also improved a ton in the playmaking department while taking care of the ball.
