New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick refused to talk about his future with the franchise after its humiliating, season-ending loss to the New York Jets.

‘I’ll address questions about the game. Anything about the future, I’ll meet with (owner) Robert Kraft, like I always do,’ Belichick said. ‘I’m disappointed in the season.’

Belichick was asked about his possible firing multiple times at his postgame press conference, giving a version of the same answer each time and never shedding light on how he views his next few days or weeks playing out.

Could freefall result in Commanders going QB in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Commanders’ QB search begins after finding out 2024 NFL Draft selection

Will the 2024 Commanders feature a new coach and a new quarterback under center?

As, as is widely expected, new team owner Josh Harris cleans house and relieves head coach Ron Rivera of his duties, the new person in charge of the Commanders should have quite the foundation to build around.

Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel have flashed potential behind McLaurin, and the backfield is led by dual-threat Brian Robinson Jr.

Commanders in prime position

Who will be throwing this group passes next season is the real question. Sam Howell has proved he can play at the NFL level, but he finished his season with three straight games with two interceptions. He also displayed a propensity to take way too many sacks earlier in the season, although that problem improved as the year progressed.

But with pick no.2, it will be hard for the Commanders to pass up a quarterback prospect. USC’s Caleb Williams is thought to be the consensus top passer of this draft, and likely will hear his name called first when the draft kicks off.

Drake Maye of North Carolina has been graded as an elite prospect as well, and is preferred even to Williams by some talent evaluators.

Taking off most of November and all of December and January have put the Commanders in a position to grab one of these highly rated quarterbacks. Now, to find someone to actually coach the team.
