Sad News: Hurricanes Head Coach Why Rejected The Interview…..?
Jason Taylor’s son will join him at the University of Miami
James Williams and Kamren Kinchens are heading to the 2024 NFL Draft after forgoing their final year of eligibility. That’s leaving a huge hole at Miami’s safety position.
The Canes are already adding Vanderbilt safety Savion Riley to their roster, and now Miami defensive line coach and NFL Hall of Fame inductee Jason Taylor will have his son with him and the Hurricanes, too.
Taylor will be a redshirt junior this next season. Here are the three-year statistics for the 5-foot-11 and 200-pound safety originally from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Saint Thomas Aquinas.
Miami’s depth chart will also have key reserves competing for starting spots like redshirt sophomore Jaden Harris and redshirt sophomore Markeith Williams. The latter safety could be a leading candidate to start after playing well versus Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl.
The Miami Hurricanes still have some areas of need that they would like to address through the Transfer Portal.
With Nick Saban retiring, players from Alabama could soon become available. We are still waiting to see how the dust settles there. The change in leadership allows Crimson Tide players a new 30 day window to enter the portal. We’ll be watching players Miami recruited heavily like running back Kevin Riley and defensive back Zay Mincey.
My understanding is that the Hurricanes would still be interested in former Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa if he can obtain a waiver from the NCAA to play an additional season. He submitted his request last week and there is no timeline or deadline for thei
r decision. If cleared, he could serve as an experienced one-year starter before one of Miami’s young signal callers are ready to take over in 2025.
We broke down Miami’s portal needs, quarterback room, and 2025 recruiting notes on my Locked On Canes podcast. Colleague Brian Smith joined me:
