Alabama football is losing one of its top tight ends to what will be an SEC rival in 2024. Amari Niblack announced on Thursday that he has committed to Texas.
Niblack released the news on his social media. He posted an image showing himself wearing a Longhorn uniform on his Instagram accoun
With That Being Said,” Niblack captioned the post, adding an amoji mimicking Texas’ Hook ‘Em” hand sign.
He was part of a rotation at tight end in 2023 for the Crimson Tide. Niblack established himself as the group’s top playmaker with the ball in his hands, finishing the year with 20 catches for 327 yards and four touchdowns.
During Alabama’s loss to Texas in Week 2, Niblack scored one of the Tide’s touchdowns. His performance throughout the year earned him praise from his teammates and former UA head coach Nick Saban
“He’s doing great,” Saban said of Niblack in October. ” He’s a really good receiver. He’s improved as a blocker. This year, his confidence and knowledge of the offense and what he’s doing, how to do it, why it’s important to do it that way is so much better, and I think it’s starting to show up in how productive he is on the field as a player.”
Niblack joined the Crimson Tide as a four-star recruit from Lakewood in Florida. The 6-foot-3, 233-pound athlete prospect was projected as either a wide receiver or tight end, settling in as the latter in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama players received an extra 30-day window to enter the transfer portal when Saban retired. Niblack isn’t the only offensive playmaker for Alabama heading to Austin, with wide receiver Isaiah Bond also joining the Longhorns to play for UT head coach and former Alabama assistant Steve Sarkisian.
