Successful Deal: Iowa has finally sign a talented star woman’to replace Caitlin Clark i think is a welcome deal…
Today, Iowa, the fifth-ranked team, and Caitlin Clark take on Nebraska in women’s college basketball.
Over the past two seasons, fifth-ranked Iowa (18-2) is 6-1 following a loss in the regular season. That is in large part due to how reigning Player of the Year Caitlin Clark has bounced back after losses. In those six games, Clark has totaled 212 points, 51 assists, 46 rebounds and 16 steals, shooting 39.6% from three. Virtually every time after a Hawkeyes loss, Clark steps up and leads the team to a win. They take on Nebraska (13-6), who have lost three of the last five games heading into today. During Clark’s career, she has gone 7-0 against the Cornhuskers between the regular season and the conference tournament.
The Hawkeyes defeated the Cornhuskers by 20 points and 4 points in their two meetings from the previous season. On 40-41-84 shooting splits, Clark averaged 63 points, 17 assists, and 17 rebounds.
With a victory today, the Hawkeyes hope to build on their recent success and maintain their hegemony over the Cornhuskers. The Hawkeyes dropped from second to fifth in the nation with their most recent setback, an overtime loss to Ohio State, which is rated 18th.
Alexis Markowski, a junior, will aim to help the Cornhuskers control the paint. Markowski is averaging 16.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 47.6% field goal shooting this season. Against a far less experienced Hawkeyes frontcourt today, she might have a monster game.
