Huge Upgrade: why Antonio Pierce still requesting of Russell Wilson?

Alexander will become the new safeties coach for the Raiders.

Gerald Alexander, the well-liked defensive backs coach for the California Golden Bears who led the secondary to improvement between 2017 and 2019, has accepted a new position in the NFL.

This time, he’s returning to the league with another former Pac-12 assistant.Alexander will shortly take a job as the safeties coach for the Las Vegas Raiders, according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe. He will be working with Antonio Pierce and the team he is assembling in Sin City. This implies that “G.A.” will be collaborating with a former Pac-12 assistant, as Pierce and Alexander were both assistant coaches at Arizona State and Cal, respectively.

Alexander became well-liked in Strawberry Canyon as soon as he joined the first Justin Wilcox team. Alexander proved to be a valuable addition to the Berkeley staff right away, elevating the once-worst team in the country to the status of a defensive back destination.

Cal was able to grab 21 interceptions in 2018 thanks to Alexander’s coaching, with 17 coming from his DB unit. Later, “G.A.” would result in subsequent NFL Draft selections from Cal, including Elijah Hicks (Chicago Bears), Cam Bynum (Minnesota Vikings), Jaylinn Hawkins (Atlanta Falcons), and Ashtyn Davis (New York Jets).

Alexander would eventually be lost by Cal to the NFL after the Bears’ 2019 RedBox Bowl victory. Alexander was able to enter the league by virtue of former head coach Brian Flores’ connection with the Miami Dolphins.

Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers who won the Super Bowl, was Alexander’s most recent employer. Before falling to the Buffalo Bills in the opening round of the AFC playoffs, Pittsburgh was awarded the seventh seed.

Pierce reportedly hired two people, one of them being the former Cal DB coach. Additionally, he appointed Ricky Manning, a former NFL cornerback, as the Raiders’ CB coach. Prior to joining the league, Manning, like Alexander, spent time in college at Fresno City College and Fresno State. He was recently with Davis with the Jets.
