Why Rams Will Trade “Jalen Ramsey: as their DC.?

Amidst being named Second Team All-Pro this season after going in the 2nd round to the Lions in the 2023 NFL draft, it has been quite a 12 months for the Iowa standout.

And after suffering a nasty injury in what ended up being a meaningless Week 18 game against Minnesota, Detroit fans were worrying that LaPorta may not be available for this week’s Wild Card matchup against the LA Rams – the team’s first home playoff game in 30 years.

What Does Sam LaPorta Mean To This Detroit Lions Offense?

Sam LaPorta has been outstanding this year, setting the rookie tight end receptions record that been in place for nearly 40 years prior. LaPorta had 889 yards on those record setting 86 receptions, good for 4th best in the NFL.

It is quite clear that after just one season of play, LaPorta has entered the upper echelon of tight ends, alongside Mark Andrews, Travis Kelce, George Kittle and, with an excellent year in 2023, Evan Engram.

Strategically, Lions head coach revealed that the team had two distinct game plans, one with, and another without LaPorta. And he is right to do so: between him and now All-Pro wide receiver, Amon-Ra St Brown, providing single coverage to either can be lethal. Thus, the fact that the Lions have both available will be a true boon to the effectiveness of the Detroit Lions’ passing offense.

It’s finally here. The Detroit Lions are back in the postseason for the first time in seven years, hosting their first playoff game in 30 years this weekend. And if that weren’t enough, it’s Matthew Stafford’s first return to play at Ford Field since he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in early 2021 in the NFC’s wild-card round.

Aaron Donald still has an elite game-wrecking ability, against the run or in the pass rush. And he’s got some serious help this year in the form of breakout rookie nose tackle Kobie Turner, making it a risk to double Donald and ignore the reigning NFC defensive rookie of the month.

Donald is ranked at or near the top in just about every metric at his position. He leads all interior defenders with 84 pressures, and is also tops with a 20% pass-rush win rate despite facing a double-teams rate of 63%.

“It’s no different than what we talk about defense, if you have to put a number of resources on (Justin Jefferson) 18, well when you do that, somebody else is getting singled up,” Campbell said. “And it’s no different than him. If you’re going to put your attention on (Donald) 99, then we’ve got to win our one-on-ones versus 91 (Turner). So, he is, it’s challenging. He’s playing at a high level, he’s really coming on and he is, he’s helping them because of that.

“And the minute you try to take care of him, then Aaron is by himself, and we know what he can do.”
