In a tweet shared by Brett McMurphy of ActionNetworkHQ, Miami ranks as the number one school in “Most points scored in Super Bowl based on players’ last college attended” with 84 total points. Miami’s Week 1 opponent Florida comes in at number two with 82 total points.

The list of Hurricanes to contribute points in the Super Bowl includes (but not limited to) Michael Irvin (12), Devin Hester (6), Reggie Wayne (6), Frank Gore (6) and Jeremy Shockey (6).

In terms of player appearances in the Super Bowl, the Miami Hurricanes are tied for the most in the game’s history with a 126 total appearances. The players who have appeared the most with four appearances are Ted Hendricks, Vince Wilfork and Jim Kelly (via stateoftheu.com).

As we shared in a previous article, appearances 125 and 126 will be from Chief’s safety Deon Bush and 49ers offensive lineman Jon Feliciano.

With Florida and Penn State in striking distance of Miami’s record, Florida is the only school with much of a chance in this Super Bowl with two offensive skill position players in Kadarius Toney and La’Mical Perine suiting up for the Kansas City Chiefs.

If neither of those players manage to score, Miami will retain their record as they hope to increase their points total with the influx of Hurricane talent in the league (and joining it soon).

College football schedule: Marquee matchups headline most pivotal weeks in 2024 Playoff race

The biggest weeks on the 2024 slate offer numerous can’t-miss games.

The Big 12 released its football schedule for the 2024 season Tuesday, unveiling the dates for its debut 16-team matrix and becoming the final power conference to lock in its matchups for the upcoming campaign. With the last piece of the puzzle in place, every power conference team’s schedule is set in stone, barring any late changes.

Now that every matchup is set and each of those contests have a date, the biggest games and most influential weeks on the college football slate emerged. With the College Football Playoff expanding next season to 12 teams, more programs have access to consequential contests. Battles between ranked teams become all the more important, particularly those pitting squads in the middle and bottom rungs of the top 25 ladder against each other.

Some weeks are bigger than others, though, on next season’s calendar. The biggest games of the year are not distributed equally, making some weekends heavier with marquee matchups and other must-see contests than others.

Below is every week of the 2024 campaign, ranked by impact on the road to the College Football Playoff.

14. WEEK 3

Marquee matchups: None

Big games: Alabama at Wisconsin, Arizona at Kansas State

Best of the rest: Georgia at Kentucky, Washington vs. Washington State, Oregon at Oregon State

Kalen DeBoer’s first big test as Alabama’s new head coach comes in Week 3 when his Crimson Tide makes a treacherous trip to the hostile confines of Camp Randall Stadium. There awaits a Wisconsin squad poised for a potential step forward in its second year under star coach Luke Fickell. Also on this week’s slate is the renewal of two Pacific Northwest rivalries wherein conference realignment castaways seek revenge on their Big Ten-bound counterparts.

13. WEEK 13

Marquee matchups: Alabama at Oklahoma

Big games: None

Best of the rest: NC State at Georgia Tech, USC at UCLA, Wisconsin at Nebraska, Ole Miss at Florida

Weeks 12 and 13 provide the SEC’s late-season buy games, and as such, there are not many big games on the table for those Saturdays. The conference does offer one massive showdown in the penultimate week of the regular season, though, in Oklahoma’s biggest home game as a first-time SEC member. If the Sooners are on the Playoff bubble, a win over the Crimson Tide could push them over the top.

12. WEEK 2

Marquee matchups: Texas at Michigan

Big games: NC State vs. Tennessee

Best of the rest: Boise State at Oregon, Iowa State at Iowa

The 2023 CFP nearly provided a national championship contest between Texas and Michigan, and while the sports world missed out on that colossal battle between two of the biggest brands around, the two sides meet next year in an early non-conference spot. There is only one other likely top-25 matchup in Week 2, but outside of that, Boise State’s trip to Oregon is sneakily intriguing. The Ducks are winless all-time against the Broncos, and if that trend continues, Dan Lanning might face an uphill battle in securing his first Playoff appearance.

11. WEEK 12

Marquee matchups: Tennessee at Georgia

Big games: Oregon at Wisconsin

Best of the rest: LSU at Florida, Kansas at BYU

SEC East rivals Tennessee and Georgia keep their tradition alive in the conference’s division-less era, meeting in mid-November at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs hold a seven-game winning streak in the series. Tricky road games for other ranked teams headline the rest of the Week 12 slate, which is extremely light on top-25 contests. Upsets are the only results that would have Playoff implications outside the top two games of the week.

10WEEK 1

Marquee matchups: Clemson vs. Georgia

Big games: LSU vs. USC

Best of the rest: Notre Dame at Texas A&M, Penn State at West Virginia

The first massive game of the season comes on Saturday, Aug. 31 when Clemson and Georgia meet for a neutral-site clash in Atlanta. That is far from the only resume-building opportunity right out of the gate, though, as LSU, Notre Dame and Penn State all draw respectable opponents away from home. There will be much to learn from these season-openers, and likely a few overreactions, too.

9. WEEK 5

Marquee matchups: Georgia at Alabama

Big games: Louisville at Notre Dame, Florida State at SMU

Best of the rest: Virginia Tech at Miami, Oregon at UCLA, Kentucky at Ole Miss, Wisconsin at USC

It will not take long into conference play for the SEC to provide a rematch of its 2023 conference championship game. Georgia seeks revenge against an Alabama team that will look much different than the one that toppled the Bulldogs to punch its ticket to the Playoff. Week 5 is also a meaningful one in the ACC, where five teams inside or knocking on the door of the way-too-early top 25 square off against each other (plus Notre Dame).

8. WEEK 8

Marquee matchups: Georgia at Texas, Alabama at Tennessee

Big games: Miami at Louisville

Best of the rest: Kansas State at West Virginia, Oklahoma State at BYU

Four Playoff hopefuls from the SEC go head-to-head as the second month of the campaign comes to a close. What better way for one of those teams to enter the pivotal month of November than with a massive victory, which would almost certainly launch them into the highest tier of the conference standings? Keep an eye on a pair of Big 12 frontrunners playing in road environments conducive for upsets, too.

7. WEEK 4

Marquee matchups: Tennessee at Oklahoma

Big games: NC State at Clemson, Utah at Oklahoma State, USC at Michigan

Best of the rest: UCLA at LSU, Kansas at West Virginia

Welcome to the SEC, Oklahoma. The Sooners drew one of the most difficult conference schedules in college football ahead of their first year in the league, and they open SEC play with a tough game against Tennessee — one of their six likely ranked foes. Each of the power conferences offers a possible ranked-on-ranked matchup in the first week of widespread league play.

6. WEEK 6

Marquee matchups: Clemson at Florida State

Big games: Michigan at Washington, Iowa at Ohio State, SMU at Louisville, Missouri at Texas A&M

Best of the rest: West Virginia at Oklahoma State

The ACC’s biggest game of the year comes in Week 6 when Florida State hosts Clemson. In fact, all four of the conference’s most likely Playoff contenders match up against each other midway through the campaign. Elsewhere, Michigan and Washington treat the world to a national championship game rematch, though both squads are under new leadership and the Huskies must replace nearly every single starter from their 2023 roster.

5. WEEK 10

Marquee matchups: Oregon at Michigan, Ohio State at Penn State

Big games: Louisville at Clemson, USC at Washington

Best of the rest: Wisconsin at Iowa

The Big Ten takes center stage in Week 10. The conference’s four best teams do battle against one another in two of the biggest games not only on the league’s slate but of the entire college football season. And that’s not all. There is a good chance that at least one, if not more, of USC, Washington, Wisconsin and Iowa will remain dark horse CFP contenders late in the year.

4. WEEK 7

Marquee matchups: Ohio State at Oregon, Ole Miss at LSU, Texas vs. Oklahoma

Big games: Penn State at USC

Best of the rest: Washington at Iowa

The long-discussed prospect of two power conferences owning college football looks like a reality in Week 7, wherein the SEC and Big Ten figure to dominate the most highly coveted broadcast windows with a slew of huge games. The leagues’ marquee matchups feature six possible top-10 teams. Penn State could be in that group, too, and faces a big challenge in a cross-country trip to meet what might be an improved USC squad.

3. WEEK 14

Marquee matchups: Michigan at Ohio State, Oklahoma at LSU

Big games: Washington at Oregon, Notre Dame at USC

Best of the rest: Kansas State at Iowa State, numerous rivalry games

Rivalry week is the culmination of a long regular season and is often responsible for plenty of the most meaningful results of the entire campaign. The Game once again lines up to be the biggest contest of the year, and countless other emotionally charged clashes give conference championship contenders and Playoff hopefuls one final shot at punching their tickets.

2. WEEK 9

Marquee matchups: Missouri at Alabama, Oklahoma at Ole Miss

Big games: Kansas at Kansas State, Florida State at Miami, LSU at Texas A&M

Best of the rest: Penn State at Wisconsin, Nebraska at Ohio State

A pair of up-and-comers in the SEC get a chance to prove themselves in the biggest games of Week 9. Missouri and Ole Miss both landed tremendous transfer classes in the early days of the 2024 offseason, and those newcomers project to bolster the defensive units at both schools to the point that the Tigers and Rebels have legitimate conference title game aspirations.

1. WEEK 11

Marquee matchups: Georgia at Ole Miss, Alabama at LSU, Oklahoma at Missouri, Florida State at Notre Dame

Big games: Washington at Penn State

Best of the rest: Iowa at UCLA, Clemson at Virginia Tech

November is a magical month in college football. Week 11 is everything that is great about the home stretch, as four marquee matchups headline a slate that should cause numerous shifts in the CFP Top 25 and conference races. The SEC in particular is in for a meaningful Nov. 9 with a trio of can’t-miss showdowns on the schedule.
