It appears Atlanta United will be ready to announce the signing of former EA Guingamp midfielder Tristan Muyumba shortly, according to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert.

In a separate move: Atlanta United finalizing a deal to sign midfielder Tristan Muyumba from EA Guingamp, per sources.

Muyumba, 26, made 35 Ligue 2 apps this season. Defensive midfielder.

ATL receiving a 2023 int’l roster slot (and GAM) from Colorado as part of Gutman trade.

In what has been an oddly quiet season of transfer rumors so far, the first one with legs arrived today via French journalist Loïc Tanzi who reports that Atlanta United is competing with two German clubs for the transfer of 26-year-old midfielder Tristan Muyumba from EA Guingamp.

And according to Tanzi, it appears Atlanta will indeed be the landing spot for Muyumba.

So who is he? We’d be fools to give a full scouting report this early, but it’s clear that he’s a central midfielder who seems versatile enough to play as either a six, an eight, or half of a double pivot.

The footage is potato, but here’s a sample of him playing against PSG (for Monaco) three years ago.

Looking at his general profile. Muyamba seems ripe for a move. He reportedly has one year left on his contract (not including options) and is just hitting his prime years. Transfermrkt lists his estimated transfer value at $1 million, if you’re into that kinda thing. But througout his career as a fledgling player, he moved for little to no money.

Most importantly, on the field, he has been a reliable player for Guingamp. He played in 35 of the team’s 38 games last season (30 starts). And that was after breaking into the starting lineup the season prior, playing 31 games (starting 17). And considering his position, he showed himself to be well-disciplined, picking up only 7 bookings in his 2663 league minutes last season.

Having said this, his last two seasons at Guingamp is really the only spell of regular football Muyumba has had in his career. Prior to joining the club in the summer of 2020, Muyumba had never played 1,000 minutes of top flight soccer in a season. Though, maybe that can be spun as a positive — less mileage. That’s in the eye of the beholder, which is you!

What do you think about this potential signing? What price range would it need to be to make sense? What role will he fill at Atlanta United, and does he go straight into the best XI? Let’s hear your thoughts, and any good film you can dig up.

ATLANTA — Atlanta United today announced it has signed forward Jamal Thiaré as a free agent through the 2024 season. The Senegalese striker, last with French Ligue 1 side Le Havre, will occupy an international roster slot pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.

“Jamal’s profile is one that translates well to this league and will complement the group of players that we’ll have for the final stretch of the season,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said. “He’s a veteran striker who has been a proven goal scorer throughout his career and we’re looking forward to having him bolster our attack.”

The 30-year-old forward was born in Kaolack, Senegal and later moved to Belgium where he began his professional career at Sporting Charleroi. Thiaré had an assist in his Jupiler Pro League debut as Charleroi defeated OH Leuven 3-0. He scored his first professional goal in the final match of the season against KV Mechelen. The following season, the forward made 13 appearances across all competitions before being loaned to French side U.S. Avranches for the 2014-15 campaign.

In the summer of 2015, Thiaré made the permanent switch to Avranches where he would stay for three seasons. His breakout season came in 2017-18 when he won the Golden Boot in the Championnat National league with 14 goals in 29 matches played. That success earned him a move up to Le Havre AC in Ligue 2.

The Senegalese forward made 29 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and adding three assists in his first season with Le Havre. He established himself as a starter the following season, scoring eight goals in 20 Ligue 2 starts. This past season, Thiaré contributed four goals and five assists helping Le Havre win the Ligue 2 title and earn promotion back to Ligue 1 for the first time since the 2008-09 season. In his five seasons with Le Havre AC, Thiaré totaled 31 goals and 18 assists in 129 appearances across all competitions.
