Names to Know: Georgia’s 2025 EDGE targets

Here’s an early look at what the Bulldogs’ recruiting board looks like at edge.

It’s Names to Know week at Dawgs247.

Georgia investing $112.5 million on coach Kirby Smart was wise decision

Now is the time to begin fully immersing yourself in the Class of 2025. Georgia already has five commitments in the 2025 recruiting class — Jadon Perlotte, Elyiss Williams, Ethan Barbour, Bo Walker, and Justus Terry. The Bulldogs are poised to build on their No. 1 class from the most recent cycle, and they’re already getting a head start with a couple junior days in the books.

This week, we are going to take a look at each position group. We are going to focus on the recruits who are most closely tied to Georgia early in their recruitments — aka the Names to Know. Necessary disclaimer: Georgia’s board is bound to grow and adjust in the spring, when it’s able to host more recruits on visits and even put some prospects through summer workouts. This is simply an initial glance into the Bulldogs’ board.

There will be a more in-depth initial predictions article later in the month, as we move that to a weekly piece instead of a quarterly piece.

This afternoon’s Names to Know edition: Edge. Here’s the current state of the position at a glance:

2024 season EDGE: 5 — Chaz Chambliss, Damon Wilson, Samuel M’Pemba, Gabe Harris, Quintavius Johnson (and yes, Mykel Williams will get plenty of reps here too)

2025 EDGE commits: 0

How many possible remaining takes?: 3. This number is thinner than Georgia would like it to be. So much so it’s a position group that could easily see an addition in the spring portal window if the right option presents itself. The way the 2025 class board is shaping up, it looks like the Bulldogs are going to take a class similar to the 2023 group with Wilson, M’Pemba, and Harris. Georgia’s going to want to beef back up the numbers in this room.

Let’s take a look at the priority offensive line targets, and a few other potential options. We will have linebacker on Saturday.

Stanford TE Benjamin Yurosek to transfer to Georgia

The Bulldogs are adding to the tight end room after Brock Bowers’ departure to the NFL.

Georgia have added another tight end weapon to its arsenal: Benjamin Yurosek, a source confirmed to Dawgs247.

Benjamin Yurosek, Stanford, Tight End

The Stanford tight end graduate transfer announced he has committed to Georgia. That gives the Bulldogs seven incoming transfers in this cycle, joining Trevor Etienne, Colbie Young, Michael Jackson III, Xzavier McLeod, London Humphreys, and Jake Pope.

Yurosek brings much-needed versatility and experience after Brock Bowers’ incoming draft departure.

“He’s elusive, man,” Southern Cal linebacker Lee said in a 247Sports article during the season. “He’s a good tight end. It’s just somebody else we have to account for and keep our eyes on throughout the game. They find creative ways to give him the ball and things like that.”

The Bulldogs hosted him on an official visit the first weekend of January. He also had an official visit scheduled to Texas.

Yurosek is coming off three-straight seasons of playing a major role for the Cardinal. During his stint at Stanford, he caught 108 passes for 1,342 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed 14 times for 104 yards, including a career-long 50-yard run in 2022. That type of versatility helps explain why Georgia would pursue Yurosek in Bowers’ absence.

Yurosek missed a significant portion of the 2023 season due to injury, only participating in six games. His most notable performance was a nine-catch, 138-yard outing against Hawaii.

Coming out of high school in Bakersfield, Calif., Yurosek ranked as a 4-star prospect. He was the No. 13-ranked tight end in the 2020 recruiting class and the 26th ranked prospect in the state of California.
