The Iowa women’s basketball A Hero Caitlin Clark’ Has Been Issue A….

In terms of scoring in NCAA women’s basketball, Caitlin Clark is getting close.

Entering Thursday night’s game against Penn State, the Iowa star is only 66 points away from taking the all-time lead. Only Kelsey Plum, who scored 3,527 points in her four years at Washington before leaving to join the WNBA as the first selection in the 2017 draft, is higher with 3,462 points than Clark.

Can Clark this Thursday night break the record? It’s doubtful because doing so would mean breaking Kansas State’s Ayoka Lee’s single-game scoring record, which stands at 61 points. But do you honestly think Clark couldn’t do it?

This season, the top scorer in the country (32.4 points per game) has already recorded three 40-point performances. She has been very prolific lately, scoring at least six goals in six straight games.

Reaching the NCAA women’s basketball scoring record is Caitlin Clark.

Only 66 points separate the Iowa standout from becoming the all-time leader going into Thursday night’s game versus Penn State. With 3,462 points, Clark is second only to Kelsey Plum, who scored 3,527 points in her four years at Washington before leaving to become the first choice in the 2017 draft and join the WNBA.

This Thursday night, can Clark break the record? That is improbable because doing so would also mean breaking Kansas State’s Ayoka Lee’s single-game scoring record of 61 points. Truly, though, would you rule it out for Clark?
Three 40-point games this season have already been recorded by the top scorer in the country (32.4 points per game). Recently, she has been especially prolific, scoring at least in six straight games.

Track Clark as he makes yet another significant advancement toward NCAA history with Nancy Armour and Lindsay Schnell in Iowa City:
The Nittany Lions have made four 3-pointers since my critique of Penn State’s long-range shooting was posted. Six Iowa turnovers have also resulted in seven points for them, including a layup to close out the first quarter. So far, seven Penn State players have scored. Hannah Stuelke of Iowa, meanwhile, leads all scorers with ten points.
You have to hit threes if you want to defeat Clark & Co. Five of fourteen for Penn State after one period.

In addition, Clark returns to begin the second quarter.

An additional noteworthy aspect is that, much to the chagrin of the Iowa audience, Clark was just whistled for her second foul. Heading to the bench, where she would likely have to wait until the middle of the second, Clark was enraged and glaring at the referees. It will be interesting to see how much more of her talking they can handle. It was also Clark’s fifth turnover after that foul.
Women’s sports used to have trouble getting airtime on television. Broadcasters are currently going above and above for Clark.
Throughout the game, the Big Ten Network displayed a “Clark tracker” in the top left corner of the screen, informing fans of the number of points Clark needed to surpass Plum’s record for the most points scored by an NCAA women’s basketball team. State Farm, which has a contract with Clark and has been showcasing her in advertising for the past few months, was even one of its sponsors. — Nancy Armour

That’s an intriguing beginning, then. At the moment, Clark has four turnovers compared to three points.
Talk about a trend that is uncommon and, I doubt, will continue.
However, Penn State is strong and will not be deterred. The Nittany Lons are shrewd, fit, and tenacious; early in the season, they gave USC a fantastic game. They probably aren’t star-struck by Clark because they had to contend with JuJu Watkins, another prolific scorer, that game.
But if they keep shooting 13% (1-for-8) from the 3-point range, they most likely won’t be able to win this game. — Lindsay Schnell
