Steven Nelson Reveals Regret in Social Media Dispute with Nick Caserio
Before the start of the 2023 season, cornerback Steven Nelson was unhappy with Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio. Nelson was searching for a new deal when he posted several cryptic messages on social media, which included an apparent rip at Caserio following mandatory camp last June, where the 31-year-old defensive back appeared detached during practice. However, Nelson was able to sign an upgraded contract that raised his total maximum compensation to $6.5 million at the start of training camp last July.
Seven months later he is up for an extension. After the success of the previous season, it appears that Nelson would prefer to stay in Houston as he enters his ninth season.
On his new podcast “The Corner Suite,” Nelson discussed the dispute, stating he regrets showcasing his displeasure on social media for the general public to witness. “What’s crazy is, I made a little joke about Nick’s vest, or wardrobe, whatever the case may be,” Nelson said. “I didn’t think it would be as viral as it went. Plus, I didn’t even mention the guy’s name. That just goes to show the power of social media. You’ve got all these millions of random people, they’re going to blow everything up. You’ve got people with podcasts, the radio stations, they blew it up.”
Since joining the Texans as a free agent in 2022, Nelson has been one of Houston’s foundational pieces on defense.
