Just Now: Browns QB Joe Flacco Reveal Surprising Retirement Plans….
When quarterback Deshaun Watson went down with a season-ending injury in Week 10 last season, many assumed the Cleveland Browns’ playoff hopes were over. After the team dropped to 7-5, Joe Flacco came in and saved the team’s season. It raised questions about Cleveland’s quarterback plans in 2024.
By most measurements, Flacco outplayed Watson in a similar sample size. Watson received a 67.3 grade from Pro Football Focus and ranked 28th in EPA per Play (-0.021). In comparison, Flacco posted a 74.2 PFF grade, finished ahead of Watson in EPA per Play (-0.016)
and the offense seemed to function better with him under center.
A poor performance in the Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans reaffirmed what many expected, that Flacco would not overtake Watson in a starting quarterback competition next season. However, it appears Cleveland won’t even let Flacco stick around.
According to Zac Jackson of The Athletic, Flacco is ‘almost definitely moving on’ with Cleveland fully committed to Watson returning in 2024 as the unquestioned starting quarterback.
Cleveland might feel confident that 2023 fifth-round pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson is ready to become a viable backup quarterback. However, he struggled in his rookie season. Across eight appearances, Thompson-Robinson posted a 53.6 percent completion rate with a 1-4 TD-INT line and averaged just 3.9 yards per pass attempt.
While Flacco fast became a fan-favorite for the Browns, it’s possible Cleveland’s coaching staff and front office may not want him returning in 2024 due to the chance fans call for him to take over as the starter if Watson struggles. The Browns’ quarterback decision might ultimately be financially-driven, but it could also prove costly to the team’s chances if Watson suffers another injury or his struggles continue.
A former Cleveland Browns quarterback is quitting their NFL quarterback career to join the coaching ranks for the 2024 season. The league saw some staff turnover this week following the Super Bowl, but most coaching positions should be filled in the next week or so.
According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, former Browns quarterback David Blough has accepted the Washington Commanders assistant quarterbacks coach gig. Blough will work under Commanders’ offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

However, he is an unrestricted free agent this offseason and 38 years old. This has left many to question what Flacco’s future holds. Now, a recent report that has come out about Deshaun Watson could give us a better idea as to what will happen with Flacco.
An earlier report revealed that one of 26 sexual misconduct cases that Watson was involved in could reopen. That is because there were improper instructions in a previous deposition. As a result, one of Watson’s cases could come back into the limelight.
However, that is not all. If this case ends up escalating, it could result in further discipline from the NFL. Watson has already been suspended 11 games because of these cases. Now, the NFL apparently has not ruled out further discipline if this does reopen.
Yesterday, Flacco revealed that he does wish to continue his NFL career in 2024. Flacco will be 39 years old next season and is open to coming back to the Browns. Considering recent developments along with what Flacco delivered for Cleveland in 2023, this could end up being a very good match. At the very least, it does give the Browns an insurance option.
Joe Flacco started five games in 2023. So, how did he do in those starts? Flacco had 1,616 passing yards and 13 touchdown passes.
However, Flacco’s playoff performance left something to be desired. In a 45-14 loss to the Houston Texans, Flacco had 307 passing yards, one touchdown pass, and two interceptions. Unfortunately, both of those interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
