News Now On 247sports: Another Mega Star Commit To Longhorns…

The Texas football team is coming off of a College Football Playoff semi-finals appearance and headed for life after the Big 12 this season with a move to the Southeastern Conference.

Arch Manning could be a big part of this season’s team or he could head elsewhere depending on how things shake out in the coming days, weeks and months, and now Eli Manning is speaking up about the situation.

Recently Coach Steve Sarkisian’s team was spotlighted for its transfer portal offseason additions. The ‘Horns coach spoke out about the potential for a QB controversy to brew in Austin, Texas this year and what he said could surprise many fans.

One opinion that is sure to carry weight among Texas football and SEC fans is that of Eli Manning. Manning was a standout at Ole Miss in the SEC where Texas football is headed and knows a thing or two about the pressures and politics of big time college football.

Manning’s Truth Bomb on Arch Manning

Eli Manning is Arch’s uncle.

He spoke out about his thoughts on whether he would advise the young Manning family phenom to transfer or stick it out in the SEC.

Eli Manning took an old school approach in describing how Arch can use his time in the Lone Star State to his advantage, in setting himself up to be the best possible quarterback he can be going forward.

Quinn Ewers is returning to the Texas Longhorns for the 2024 season, which means Arch Manning will serve as QB2 for the Longhorns and won’t be a starter for another season. With that said, there has been plenty of calls for the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning to transfer schools.

If you ask Eli if Arch should move to another program where he can start, though, he would tell the youngster to stick to it.

The talks about Manning transferring made buzz once again after Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed recently that Ewers will be the team’s QB1 in the upcoming 2024 season.

Ewers was eligible to declare for the NFL Draft and turn pro, but he opted to go back for his junior year. With that, Sarkisian made it clear he’s starting once again.

“Quinn’s our starter. I think it was big for Quinn. I think [it was] pretty easy to see from the naked eye the development that Quinn made from year one to year two. I don’t think that Quinn was a finished product yet. And I think there is plenty of room for growth and improvement and development in his game going into year three,” Sarkisian said of Ewers, per Austin American-Statesman.

It’s really not a surprise why Ewers get the starting nod over Manning. While Manning is definitely talented and capable of leading his own team, Ewers is just more experienced and really familiar with Sarkisian’s system.

In 2023, Ewers tallied 3479 yards and 22 touchdowns on 69.0 percent pass completion while playing 12 games.

“No. He picked Texas cause that’s where he wants to be. That’s where he wants to play football. He likes Coach Sarkisian and his offense and what they’re doing,” Eli said, via Zach Gelb of CBS Sports.

“He knew last year that he was going to redshirt, get some playing time. Obviously, the plan was maybe for Ewers to go to the NFL, but he’s there. It’s another year for Arch to mature, learn an offense, get bigger and stronger in the weight room and always be prepared to play. You never know what’s going to be happen.”

It remains to be seen what Arch will actually do in light of Ewers’ return. But for now, he remains a Longhorn and it appears it will stay the same.
