Because of their current salary cap situation, the Buffalo Bills might have no other choice but to part ways with star wide receiver Stefon Diggs and his big-money contract. He still remains one of the most important members of the squad, but Buffalo could be forced to cash in on the four-time Pro Bowler as they look to capitalize on Josh Allen’s prime.
One potential landing spot that has been identified for Diggs is the New York Giants.
Colum Dell of Yardbarker points out that Diggs’ forgettable second half of the season combined with the amount of money he is owed for 2024-25 might force Buffalo’s hand. If they decide to move on from Diggs, it would be crucial for this team to make a play in the upcoming draft:
“Since this hypothetical scenario would play out after the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bills would have to get a succession plan for Diggs in order, which they could address in the first round,” Dell wrote.
What the Bills do in the draft should provide a hint on their immediate plans for Diggs, who, if ever, they will want to trade after June 1 in order to maximize the salary cap savings.
According to Dell, the Giants could be a team that is willing to take on Diggs’ high-risk, high-reward situation:
“While a potential trade partner would have to take on a hefty salary, the Giants might not mind, as they’re still searching for a true No. 1 wideout. Not to mention that Diggs thrived in Brian Daboll’s system when the Giants head coach was Buffalo’s offensive coordinator and has raved about playing for the 48-year-old.
“… Perhaps a package that revolves around New York’s 2025 second- and third-round picks would appeal to Buffalo,” Dell wrote.
