Report: Russell Wilson expects to be cut by Broncos in March - Yahoo Sports

The Denver Broncos are in a precarious financial situation since they’ll enter the 2024 offseason projected to be $30 million above the salary cap, and that’s not even to mention the dead-money cap hit if they somehow cut Russell Wilson.

To alleviate their situation, the Denver Broncos might have to let go of certain players to create some much-needed cap space, and the Over The Cap website had Courtland Sutton as a potential cap casualty this summer.

Sutton still has two years left on his current deal with the Denver Broncos, where he’ll be making roughly $14 million annually, so letting him go this offseason is not as easy as it seems.

After the Denver Broncos missed the postseason, Courtland Sutton took to his Instagram to reflect on the 2023 campaign. On Instagram, the 28-year-old wideout expressed gratitude towards the team and the fans.

“Broncos country, I’m very grateful to be able to have finished off another season here in Denver. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to accomplish our main goal. I’m still grateful for all my teammates and support staff that have been riding with me all season,” wrote Sutton.

However, fans pointed out the second part of his long message, which feels like him saying goodbye to Denver, emphasizing that he gave everything to this team every time he stepped on the pitch.

“I know all things happen for a reason, and I trust my God’s plans over everything, including whatever is next for me. Just know I gave everything to this team and organization every time I stepped on that field. All Love 14,” he added.

Sutton was productive in 2023, recording 59 receptions for 772 receiving yards and a career-high 10 touchdowns.

The Denver Broncos could trade Courtland Sutton to the AFC North

Sayre Bedinger from Fansided has listed five potential destinations for Courtland Sutton if the Denver Broncos ultimately trade him, with three teams coming from the AFC North.

“Sutton could be a great mentor for Pickens, and would be a major asset for the Steelers, as he’s proven to be QB-proof throughout the course of his NFL career,” wrote Bedinger about the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“The Browns are obviously all-in on Deshaun Watson with his fully guaranteed contract and they can’t pinch pennies at a time like this. They won’t be getting a better receiver in the third round of the NFL Draft this year than Courtland Sutton,” Bedinger said about the Cleveland Browns.

“With his ability to win contested catch situations and help as a blocker in the running game, Sutton could be the perfect fit for Baltimore for the price of a mid-round pick. It’s a no-brainer for them,” shared Bedinger about the Baltimore Ravens.
