Los Angeles Rams: Head Coach Sean McVay Explains Why 2024….
It’s been a while since the Los Angeles Rams had any first-round draft picks of their own, so it’s an exciting time for Rams fans who are looking forward to the additions their teams will make.
Since the 2024 NFL Draft will be the Rams’ first draft in a while where they will be taking a first overall pick, you would like to think that Sean McVay would be showing up during this year’s Draft Combine.
However, some fans might have expected that McVay wouldn’t likely change his attitude when it comes to the combine. And when reports surfaced that he won’t be attending this year’s draft combine, he went and explained his logic behind it.
Matt Hladik of The Spun covered McVay’s decision to not go to the Draft Combine this year, and his logic behind his decision would make many of the Rams fans agree:“I’m not going to the Combine,” McVay told reporters Thursday, via Pro Football Talk. “I think the most important thing is what the tape looks like and then what is the vetting and the human being.
“If there’s anything that has consistently become clear when you reflect on the seven years and as [General Manager] Les [Snead] and I, and really our organization, continue to identify the types of players that we want in our building, and really types of people in general, it’s people that are tough.
“It’s people that cannot allow the outside circumstances to dictate their response. But there’s a steadiness, there’s a commitment to core values and principles, they love football, they want to keep the main thing the main thing.”
Sean McVay is speaking from the fact that not a lot of college standouts manage to adjust to the level of competition in the NFL and quickly fade out of the pro leagues. Meanwhile, there are plenty of outstanding players in the league who were selected in the middle and late rounds.
Los Angeles Rams fans have one excellent receiver that perfectly encapsulates this mindset. Puka Nacua is one of the biggest sleepers in the 2023 Draft class. Under McVay’s guidance, the former Washington and BYU wideout finished his RoY campaign with 1486 receiving yards and 6 TDs on a 57% catch rate.
