Cleveland Browns Have Competition For Joe Flacco In Exciting Offseason Prediction…
The Cleveland Browns have the unenviable task of finding a solid quarterback that can help the team maintain their strong 2023 performance in the AFC North and make another playoff appearance in 2024.
The biggest issue with Cleveland’s offense is Deshaun Watson still being a huge question mark to the team’s long-term plans.
His multiple injuries, compounded by his poor performances whenever he’s available, placed a lot of doubts on the team whether it’s still wise to move forward with the Clemson product. He only played in seven games for the Browns last season, completing 61% of his passes for 1115 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions.
Meanwhile, Joe Flacco did an incredible job in stepping up for the Browns in 2023. The 39-year-old signal caller won Comeback Player of the Year after posting 1616 passing yards and 13 passing touchdowns that helped the team make a surprise playoff appearance.
The Cleveland Browns have expressed their interest in keeping the one-time Super Bowl winner, but there’s a huge caveat when it comes to his future with the team.
Cleveland Browns face New England Patriots for Joe Flacco’s signature
According to The Spun’s Hunter Hodies, the New England Patriots are interested in acquiring Flacco’s services to make him a bridge quarterback for the young quarterback they’ll be signing in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Cleveland Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot provided context on the potential free-agency dilemma the Browns will face:“I’m hearing the Patriots are interested in possibly signing Flacco as a bridge starter to help mentor a rookie quarterback if they select one at No. 3 overall, such as North Carolina’s Drake Maye,” Cabot wrote.
That move would make a lot of sense as the Patriots try and retool their quarterback room for next season. They’re expected to draft a quarterback at No. 3 overall but it depends on which one is there.
The Cleveland Browns will want to keep him around as he’s been a terrific backup whenever Watson is playing ineffectively. Moreover, Flacco may be more interested in competing for another Super Bowl than showing the ropes to a young quarterback.
However, the New England Patriots can just throw money to Flacco to rent him for a year as they ease either Drake May or Jayden Daniels into the NFL life. The Browns will be hoping that Flacco decides to try and compete for the starting QB in 2024 than head towards a rebuild with the Pats.
