2024 will be Khalil Davis’ fourth year in the NFL and it will be his second year with the Houston Texans. Davis has never spent more than one year with an NFL team since coming into the league in 2020.

Khalil Davis’ 2023 year with the Houston Texans was his most productive yet

Before finding a role as a rotational piece with the Houston Texans under head coach DeMeco Ryans, Khalil Davis hadn’t contributed much as an NFL player.

Davis spent the first year of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He only played in two games with Tampa Bay and recorded just two tackles and two quarterback hits before heading over to the Indianapolis Colts.

Davis found himself out of the league in just three short years, but he found redemption with the Houston Texans and rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans.

In the last two years, Davis only played in one single game and didn’t record a single stat. This changed in 2023 when Davis was able to find a role on the Houston Texans and play in 15 games. He had 32 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two pass deflections. Davis was able to show love to his alma mater, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, for the first time in 2023.

Davis explained in a Sports Illustrated article that confidence was the key to his redemption as an NFL player.

“You have to trust the process and trust yourself,” Davis exclusively told Texans Daily. “The biggest thing is confidence in yourself. If you don’t have confidence in yourself, how are you going to be able to show that? I just believe I could do it.”

Khalil Davis became a fan-favorite in short order during his first productive year in the NFL. Many Houston Texans fans are happy to have a contributor like Davis back on the roster for another year.

Davis is still just 27-years-old with just three years of NFL-level wear-and-tear on his body. His story of redemption means that he has a lot to prove with the opportunities he is given in the NFL.

Desmond King is back in Houston for another year. The Houston Texans and the veteran defensive back have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.8 million deal with a maximum value of $2.2 million, according to KPRC2 Sports. King, 29, joined the Texans initially in 2021 under David Culley. He re-signed a two-year, $7 million deal in 2022 once Lovie Smith was named head coach, but was released during the final cuts of the preseason last August.

King rejoined the Texans after playing partially for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a key figure on the AFC South champion defense after starting nickel defender Tavierre Thomas suffered a season-ending injury. The former Los Angeles Chargers All-Pro defensive back finished with 47 tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery, five tackles for losses and two quarterback hits.

Drafted out of Iowa in 2017, King has 473 tackles, nine interceptions, three forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, and two touchdowns with two punt returns for a score in seven seasons. King is the fifth Texans player to re-sign since the start of the offseason. Tight end Dalton Schultz agreed to terms on a three-year, $36 million prior to the franchise tag deadline. Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn agreed to terms on a three-year, $15.9 million deal earlier this week. Defensive backs Kris Boyd and Eric Murray agreed to terms Saturday on one-year contracts, as well.

Free agency begins on March 13. The legal tampering period begins on March 11, when teams are allowed to speak and come to terms on long-term deals with impending free agents.
