Unbelievable: Kyle Shanahan Said Choosing San Francisco 49ers Was The Biggest Mistake He Has Ever Made….

Trade scenarios are starting to ramp up involving All-Pro receiver Brandon Aiyuk. First it was “rumors” to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and now it is the Pittsburgh Steelers are showing “interest” in the rising star receiver. The San Francisco 49ers have a crucial decision to make on Aiyuk. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal, which makes him due for a contract extension. The 49ers can either continue their streak of extending their homegrown excellent players, they can go the DeForest Buckner route by trading him, or let him play out his final year. Whatever decision that will be made, it won’t become clear anytime soon. That is because the 49ers do not extend players until July or August. It is a weird standard they uphold that doesn’t prove to give them any significant impact. Extending Aiyuk now or shortly once free agency really dies down would make sense. But because the 49ers draw this out all the time, Aiyuk will continue to be linked to trade scenarios. They can easily put an end to the constant trade rumors and reports by simply extending him soon. If they know they want him back, then it makes no sense to wait another four-to-five months from now. However, they love to make their players who are due for an extension wait. As a result, they must live with the trade chatter until it occurs, especially since they have proven capable of trading away a star player due for an extension before. This is the 49ers’ own doing. Of course, they could always break their protocol of extending a player until late, but would the 49ers like to break their standard like that? If they didn’t for Nick Bosa last year, then they definitely won’t for Aiyuk this year. Get used to all of these trade scenarios with Aiyuk. The 49ers are the ones who created this situation by making extensions a moot point until close to training camp.

Ever since the San Francisco 49ers lost in the Super Bowl to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, the immediate future of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been up in the air, as there has been talk of the team potentially trading him elsewhere.

Although 49ers general manager John Lynch has maintained that the team intends to sign Aiyuk to a contract extension, San Francisco still hasn’t gotten a deal done with him, and it appears the outspoken wide receiver is stoking the fire a bit that he could be on the move.

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Aiyuk took to Twitter recently and tagged Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin in a tweet saying that people think they’re twins.

Obviously, that’s a weird tweet to say out of nowhere, especially with an uncertain situation unfolding in San Francisco, but it didn’t stop fans from reacting and speculating that he could be on his way to Pittsburgh to play for the longtime head coach.

With the Steelers needing some help in the wide receiver department after recently parting ways with Diontae Johnson in a trade to the Carolina Panthers, Aiyuk would be an ideal addition to the squad, especially now that the team has some more stability at quarterback with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

It’ll be interesting to see how things unfold for Aiyuk and whether he ends up landing in Pittsburgh or stays put in San Francisco.

It’s official: Chase Young has left the 49ers for the Saints. But what’s more paramount is the subcontext, with the player set for offseason surgery.

Reports surfaced Tuesday afternoon that the former San Francisco 49ers defensive end will undergo a neck procedure this offseason. The injury will likely keep him off the field into training camp, with the expectation that he will return at some point in mid-August. Young signed a one-year, $13 million fully guaranteed deal with New Orleans this week, as the Saints were fully aware of the circumstances.

The deal was made official Monday, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the injury a day later.

Per reports, Young sustained the injury early in the 2023 season with the Washington Commanders. Listed as a stinger suffered in the opening preseason contest, the injury pestered him for much of the year, missing Week 1 of the regular season. He played every other game last season, including three playoff games with the 49ers.

It seems the injury was brought to light during free agency this month, with other teams hesitant to offer more. In the end, Young will undergo surgery this offseason, already behind schedule for next season.

Chase Young, 24, was acquired by the 49ers for a compensatory third-round pick at the 2023 trade deadline. Hailed as a star pickup for SF, Young underdelivered during his time in The Bay, often disengaged on the field. He only recorded 10 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks in the regular season. The Ohio State alum added eight tackles and one more sack from the postseason run.

While the move was always seen as a rental, Young’s lackluster production prompted the 49ers to look elsewhere in 2024. They signed fellow edge rusher Leonard Floyd to a two-year deal Monday.

Despite the minimal production on the field, Young’s presence was felt in the locker room, particularly by DE Nick Bosa. The 49ers star pass rusher posted a goodbye to his close friend Tuesday.
