Just In:  Los Angeles Rams QB  Matthew Stafford,Says Sean McVay Is The Worse Coach That He Ever Met….

The Los Angeles Rams will be hungry to get back to the level of success they enjoyed in 2021 when they won Super Bowl LVI by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals23-20 and they’ve made steps to do so by getting their lead quarterback, Matthew Stafford, a brand new offense.

The Californian franchise finished 2023 as the runners-up in the NFC West with a 10-7 record as they trailed the San Francisco 49ers before they were eliminated in the NFC Wild Card round by the Detroit Lions, who went on to reach the NFC Championship game.

That indicates they are close to going on a serious run but they are missing the final few pieces and for Les Shead, the General Manager, that last part of the jigsaw appears to lie in protecting Stafford from getting sacked/pressured in the 2024 season.

They’ve done that be ensuring they retained Kevin Dotson (guard) to a three-year $48m contract and then they signed Jonah Jackson (guard) to another three-year contract, this time to the value of $51m with $34m guaranteed.

That has allowed them to strengthen other areas without spending a single cent as they can now move their offensive linesman, Steve Avila, from the guard role to the center. This is his natural position and where he played at TCU in the NCAA.

Stafford threw for 3965 yards in 2023, yielding 24 touchdowns and allowing 11 interceptions across 15 games in his first uninterrupted season since the Super Bowl-winning game. In 2022, he suffered with two concussions and a spinal contusion.

How does this solve 2023’s issues?

In 2023, the Rams ranked fifth in the entire NFL for sacks allowed as they conceded 1.59 sacks per game whilst they ranked sixth for pressure rate allowed. This shows that they were clearly unable to effectively protect Stafford from opposition defenses.

The impact is not only do they increase their outright turnovers via sacks, it increases the risk of interceptions as the 36-year-old QB is forced to rush plays and cannot have as much time to judge distances and speeds before he throws the football.

If they can tighten up in those moments, they will naturally increase their points scored and decrease their points allowed. This will result in more wins, and more wins means they play fewer postseason games.

Furthermore, the extra two names means that they increase their roster depth quality. In 2023, the Rams used six players all season which is unusually high. More players used means less stability and consistency for all involved, leading to more gaps in the guard.
