suggests: The Utah Jazz’ suggests to give “Kris Dunn” a new contract for next season
The Utah Jazz are hoping to give fans what they want sooner rather than later. No, that doesn’t necessarily mean a competitive roster just yet ( but *fingers crossed*). Instead, we’re talking about the fan hatred of the neon yellow look the Jazz have used as their primary logo and uniform combination. Fans haven’t enjoyed it and it feels like every few days we’re getting rumors that a new look uniform and logo are coming to the team.
One Utah Jazz insider has already revealed that he believes the rebrand is coming. And that needs to be emphasized, we have no confirmation one way or another that a rebrand is actually coming. We’re hoping it’s coming but we have no idea if it is or what it’ll look like when it arrives.
What we do know is that the fans have not been the most receptive to this era of uniforms. And for just cause, it feels very un-Jazz-like. While the original Jazz colors really embraced its creation in New Orleans, neon yellow was never a look that was used in any popular iteration of the team’s design, either in New Orleans or in Salt Lake City. So fans want a look that better embraces the team’s history and legacy.
Well, we don’t know if a rebrand is coming for sure, but if it does, we have an idea when it’ll arrive.
Sports Illustrated suggests that the rebrand could be coming as early as this summer. Considering how long it takes to do a re-design (the Houston Texans announced theirs nearly a year in advance), the fact that it could be this season seems to suggest that the Jazz’s top brass has been expecting this move for some time.
The introduction of the remixed mountain logo and jersey set may have been done to gauge how much fans liked that look as opposed to the current one. Regardless, we’ll find out soon enough if we’re saved from the tacky neon yellow Jazz era.
The Utah Jazz need to give Kris Dunn a new contract for next season
Kris Dunn has been one of the better players for the Utah Jazz all season long. The soon-to-be 30-year-old point guard is the best perimeter defender the team has and is often the opposing team’s best scorer for good reason. What he can do out on the court is a rarity for the Jazz, who rank 29th in the NBA in total defense and boost only two players on the team currently with a positive defensive box plus minus; Dunn and Walker Kessler.
The Jazz need Dunn, as evidenced by Jazz head coach Will Hardy has been starting him once again as the team comes down the stretch. For all the raving that Keyonte George and Collin Sexton have got from an offensive standpoint, both men are detriments to the defense. Neither man really tries, and both give up a lot of points.
It makes starting them at the same time nearly impossible unless you’re willing to give up 130 points. The team needs to overhaul the defense, and it may mean trading away either George or Sexton (if not both). The team shouldn’t be all in on any of the guards right now, considering, save for Dunn, they all have huge holes in their game that limits the team.
While Dunn isn’t an expert marksman, he has proven to be a very reliable offensive player, as long as he’s not the first three options at any one given time. Where he shines is his ability to distribute the ball and play defense, the two things he does better, arguably than George or Sexton.
Keeping Dunn around is a must going forward. Fans are mad, and while there’s a contingent on outlets like Twitter/X that are fine with tanking, most fans hate it. Especially since the team was already making strides to the playoffs the last two seasons. The fandom wants the Jazz to return to glory and not have to suffer through a near-decade of a rebuild like the Philadelphia 76ers.
If the goal is still to win as fast as possible, then the Jazz have got to bring back Dunn for next season. He’s too important to the health of the defense for the Jazz to lose him.
The Utah Jazz have done the fans wrong during the 2023-2024 season. Not only was there a post-trade deadline tank that fans weren’t expecting but the team has seemingly lied to fans about their intentions. This has upset a lot of season-ticket holders who were under the impression the team was going to try and compete this season. Well, a 3-16 record after the NBA Trade Deadline has proven that to be a lie.
But that doesn’t mean the season has been a waste, not entirely. While we don’t know what the future of the roster will be, or if the talents that are acquired in the 2024 NBA Draft are going to be worth the frustration the team went through to get them, it does appear that the Jazz and owner Ryan Smith have in fact listened to the fanbase.
The yellow jersey ear is dead. Or at least so the rumor goes. There has not been a fandom more vocal about the dislike of their uniforms and jerseys than the Jazz fandom. The team brought in the yellow-and-black look in 2022, and now, less than two years later, the team has already started phasing them out. The Jazz announced in late February of 2024 that they wouldn’t wear those yellow jerseys for the remainder of the season.
Now it appears as though the rebrand that Smith tried to bring to Utah is over. According to KSL’s Ben Anderson, the Jazz are rumored to be moving on from the neon yellow look and will be reverting back to the purple, black, and white colors of yesteryear. Anderson goes on to write;
