Good news: Titans Make Blockbuster Trade With Chiefs Official

Shortly after winning their third Super Bowl in five seasons last month, the Kansas City Chiefs used their nonexclusive franchise tag on cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

It led to speculation and even the expectation that the Chiefs would trade Sneed, who emerged as a key contributor to their 2023 world championship team.

On Friday, it became official: He was traded to the Tennessee Titans for a seventh-round draft pick this year and a third-round choice in 2025, per the Titans’ official Twitter account.

Sneed has started 54 of his 57 NFL games in his four pro seasons, and while he hasn’t made the Pro Bowl, at least not yet, he has combined for 25 passes defended in the last two years.

In 2023, he allowed an outstanding 51-percent pass completion rate and a 56.2 passer rating when the man he was guarding was targeted.

This trade opens up a bit of a void in Kansas City’s secondary opposite Trent McDuffie, who was named to the All-Pro First Team last season.

Tennessee has quietly assembled a team that could be competitive in 2024 and possibly even snag a playoff spot if all goes right for them.

What does the L'Jarius Sneed trade mean for the Chiefs?

They acquired wide receiver Calvin Ridley and running back Tony Pollard in free agency this month, and they should help an offense that was just 27th in scoring and 28th in total yards in 2023.

The big question for the Titans is at quarterback, where Will Levis will have to develop into a reliable signal-caller if they are to challenge for the postseason in a crowded AFC.
