April 4 (UPI) — First pitch for a series opener between the Miami Marlins and

was rescheduled after the Yankees “reconsidered the challenges of playing through Monday’s solar eclipse,” they announced Thursday.

The game was initially scheduled to start at 2:05 p.m. EDT at Yankee Stadium, but first pitch was pushed back to 6:05 p.m. in New York.

Views for totality for the solar eclipse, starting at about 2:27 p.m. EDT in the United States, are dependent on location. The event is expected to start at 2:10 p.m. in New York, with the sun most hidden at about 3:25 p.m., according to NASA.

Yankee Stadium gates will open to fans at 3 p.m. The first 15,000 guests will receive Yankees solar eclipse T-shirts.

No other MLB games are scheduled to start before 5:10 p.m. on Monday. The Yankees (6-1) will host the Toronto Blue Jays (3-4) at 1:05 p.m. Friday in New York. They will end that three-game series Sunday at Yankee Stadium,

The Marlins, who on Thursday became just the third team in MLB history to start a season with eight-consecutive losses, will face the St. Louis Cardinals (4-4) at 2:15 p.m. Saturday in St. Louis. They will end that series Sunday at Busch Stadium.

ARMONK, N.Y. (Gray News) – Police in New York said a driver was killed when a tree fell on a vehicle on Wednesday afternoon as severe weather moved through the area.

According to the North Castle Police Department, the deadly incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on New York State Route 128 between School Street and Leisure Farm Drive in Armonk.

The tree fell on a 2021 Toyota and killed the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle at the time, North Castle Police Chief Peter Simonsen said.

Law enforcement did not officially name the victim, but News 12 Westchester identified her as Cathy Tusiani, the wife of a New York Yankees executive.

The team released a statement on Thursday about Tusiani, which said she “was beloved by our front office staffers, who were privileged to experience and bear witness to her kindness, intelligence, sense of humor, and great love for her husband, Michael, over the two-plus decades of dedicated service he has provided the Yankees organization and the Steinbrenner family.”

The incident is being investigated by the North Castle and Westchester County police departments.

The series opener between the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins, originally scheduled for Monday afternoon, has been pushed back into the evening due to an upcoming solar eclipse, per SNY.

“After discussions with Major League Baseball, the scheduled start time of the Yankees-Marlins game on Monday, April 8 at Yankee Stadium has been changed from 2:05 p.m. to 6:05 p.m.,” the team announced Thursday night.

The 2024 total solar eclipse will pass over Mexico, Canada and the United States on Monday with it passing over the New York City area in the afternoon.

According to NASA’s tracker, when the eclipse will pass over will vary, but for New York, the eclipse will start around 2:07 p.m. EDT just as first pitch was originally set to take place. It’ll completely pass through the area closer to 4 p.m.

The Yankees are off to a scorching-hot 6-1 start headed into their weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

It’s no surprise that the team is being led by Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. But the Yankees have found an offensive threat in Anthony Volpe. Volpe had his first-career four-hit game against the Diamondbacks on Monday night. Volpe smashed two doubles for the team, helping to ignite the offense.

The Yankees have also had solid pitching so far this season, which has been a key factor in their hot start. The latest strong outing came from Luis Gil, who returned to the Bronx Bombers from having Tommy John surgery. Gil made his first appearance in a league game since 2022.

Soto, meanwhile, has been a revelation. After notching a hit and the game-saving assist from the outfield on Opening Day, the newest Yankees star has been absolutely scorching. Soto is hitting .345 with four RBIs and three runs scored. It’s no surprise that Soto is mashing in a contract year that could near Shohei Ohtani’s AAV (average annual value).

Soto is reportedly seeking an AAV similar to Ohtani. Ohtani, of course, has deferrals in his deal which means he’s only making $2 million per year right now, but Ohtani’s contract is essentially valued at $46 million per season.
