Breaking: Sooner Are Closing In On Deal To Sign $14.5 Millon WR And Return Specialist…..
The late, great Toby Keith was not just an Oklahoma native – he was also a die-hard fan of his home state Oklahoma Sooners. Though Toby never went to college, instead going to work in the oil fields after graduating high school, he was a lifelong supporter of Oklahoma, and was often seen at Sooner football games in the fall.
So of course Toby wasn’t too fond of the University of Texas, who was Oklahoma’s (now-former) rival in the Big 12.
Toby’s good friend, former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens, made an appearance at the 2024 CMT Music Awards and spoke of just how passionate Toby was about Oklahoma – even when it came to losing a bet.
Clemens, whose sons played for Texas, recalled a game when the Longhorns traveled to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners:
“Toby told my boys, ‘If you hit a home run off our Oklahoma pitcher today, I’ll sit on your dugout and I’ll sing ‘The Eyes of Texas’ with you.’
Honestly, the only part of the ridiculous music video awards show (does CMT even play music videos anymore?) that piqued my interest was the tribute to the late, great Big Dog Daddy himself.
And I have to say… it was pretty flat.
Roger Clemens and Sammy Hagar were two of Toby’s good friends, but for a country music awards show it seems a little out of left field (no pun intended). Lainey is Lainey… she’s always entertaining, but ol’ Kix and Ronnie seemed like they found out about the performance five minutes before they went on stage.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE me some Brooks and Dunn, they put on one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to and Ronnie Dunn still can sing with the best of them, but the timing, the fumbled lyrics… everything was just a bit off.
Orlando (Fla.) Jones high school quarterback Dereon Coleman has one of the most talented arms in the class of 2026. The 6-1, 160-pounder has 17 offers to his name from the likes of Nebraska, Arkansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and many others.
Oklahoma City (Okla.) Cal Abert cornerback Trystan Haynes is one of the top defensive backs in the class of 2025. On Thursday, the 6-2, 175-pounder became an All-American, as he was invited by 247Sports to the 2025 All-American Bowl.
Listed at No. 119 overall, Haynes is a top talent and someone very well-respected by the 247Sports scouting team. He’s the No. 12 cornerback in the country as well.
On the recruiting side of things, Haynes says he wants to make a commitment after a run of official visits. He has four trips lined up.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa. – The college basketball transfer portal may be humming, but springtime also means the start of the grassroots travel season. Adidas is the first to start off the shoe brand events as all of the teams under their umbrella of sponsorship have descended on the Iowa West Fieldhouse just a stone’s throw from downtown Omaha for the first of their three spring 3SSB Circuit stops.
Who stood out on Day one? Read on for all of the details.
By far the best game of the day that 247Sports was able to watch was a matchup between Team Loaded VA and BABC featuring several highly ranked players as a total of seven four-star players hit the floor. After battling back from an early deficit, Loaded walked away with 68-65 win as they were paced by three of their four-stars in 2025 forward Nate Ament, 2025 point guard Kaden Magwood and 2026 shooting guard Quincy Wadley.
The highest ranked of the bunch at No. 13 overall in 2025, Ament got off to a little bit of a slow start but finished strong. A slim combo forward who measured in at 6-foot-9 during last weekend’s USA Basketball event, he was gliding to the rim off the dribble, hitting pull-up jumpers and splashing home a few threes to finish with 17 points and six rebounds. Being pursued by many, he’s been on campus at places like Duke, Villanova and Virginia Tech.
Ranked No. 94 overall, Magwood has proven to be a high scoring point guard who can really create space off the dribble. While he did some nice things scoring the ball, it was his passing and setting up teammates that impressed the most. He’s already been to programs like Alabama, Illinois and Virginia Tech and finished with 14 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
Last but not least for Loaded, Wadley may have been the star of the game. After missing much of his sophomore season due to injury, he came out firing from deep and kept Loaded in it. He’s really added to his game off the bounce and combining that with the deep shooting makes him tough. Ranked No. 17 overall in 2026, he finished with 18 points, two rebounds and three assists to go with four made threes.
