Huge details: Four-star player commits to Tennessee basketball details On Dalton Knecht……

2025 four-star big man DeWayne Brown has committed to Tennessee basketball. The Hoover, Ala. details his decision to commit to the Vols with GoVols247.

2025 four-star post player DeWayne Brown committed to Tennessee over Mississippi State on Saturday evening, the Hoover, Ala. product revealed on his Instagram. Brown is the first commitment for the Vols in the class of 2025.

“I feel like their coaching staff can get me to my end goal, which of course would be getting to the NBA,” Brown told GoVols247 before publicly revealing his decision. “I feel like they have some of the best NBA development. It was a big part of my decision. Just establishing the trust with the coaching staff.”

Brown took an official visit to Tennessee the weekend of Feb. 17. He watched the Vols beat Vanderbilt, 88-53, and spent time riding around Knoxville with Rick Barnes.

It was Brown’s second visit with the Volunteers. His first was back on Jan. 6 when he watched Tennessee open SEC play with a 90-64 win over Ole Miss.

Brown departed Rocky Top following his pair of visits beginning to believe what Tennessee’s coaching staff was telling him.

“Just their plan for me coming into the program with how they’re going to develop me and help me get to the next level was huge for me,” Brown said. “Me and Coach Barnes talk on the phone a lot. Especially the last week or two. He just wanted to express how much they want me, how they’re going to play me, their plans for me coming in as a true freshman. That meant a lot to me.”

The 6-foot-9, 250-pound big man is ranked in the industry-generated 247Sports composite as the No. 143 overall player in the country and the top player in the state of Alabama out of Hoover High School. Brown also visited Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and LSU throughout the recruiting process.

Gregg Polinsky, Tennessee’s third-year assistant coach, served as Brown’s primary recruiter.

“He really is just always keeping it real with me,” Brown said about Polinsky. “I’ve been talking to Coach Polinsky for awhile, so it’s been good. Just hearing his plan for me, especially with his background in the NBA, it was always good.”

Tennessee is coming off an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. Brown was tuned in and paying attention to the Vols as he was on the cusp of making a decision between the Vols and Mississippi State.

“It was fun,” Brown said. “But I took it more seriously by seeing how I could see myself on the floor and seeing how I would fit in and how much was really true about what they told me about the offense.”

Brown recently helped lead Hoover to a second consecutive state title behind 15.5 points per game, 9.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 87 blocks. He was named the Class 7A Player of the Year in Alabama as a result.

The big man wants to be prepared to play when he arrives at Tennessee following his final season of high school basketball. Putting himself in position to do so is the top priority following his decision as he gears up for his senior season.

“Tennessee fans are getting a hard worker,” Brown said. “Somebody that is there for the community and somebody that is ready to play.”
