Georgia Agree 24.2 Million For A WR….
Late last month, the ASU football program was dealt a potentially significant blow with the loss of former five-star quarterback Jaden Rashada. Last year’s opening-week starter, Rashada, left Arizona State after only three games, going 44-of-82 with 485 yards, four touchdowns, and three picks. He also rushed 14 times for 23 yards and will head to Athens to play for the Georgia Bulldogs next fall. Michigan State transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt sits atop the depth chart but could receive some much-needed competition with news of a transfer heading to Tempe breaking on Wednesday.
According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, The Sun Devils expect to land former Nebraska Cornhuskers and Georgia Tech starting quarterback Jeff Sims via the transfer portal. Sims would become the third player to commit to ASU during the portal’s spring window, joining former Colorado Buffaloes tight end Chamon Metayer and edge rusher J’Mond Tapp, formerly of the Texas Longhorns.
Jeff Sims: Heading to ASU Football
Jeff Sims expects to play his fifth college season with the ASU Sun Devils. A four-star prospect per 247Sports, Sims initially played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets from 2020 to 2022. Upon arrival, he became the team’s immediate starter, throwing for 1,881 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 13 picks as a true freshman. Georgia Tech went 3-7 during his first season. Sims improved as a passer the following season, accumulating 1,468 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven picks as a sophomore. However, the Yellow Jackets again won only three games. The Florida native played in a committee the following year, tallying five passing touchdowns to three picks.
Sims transferred to the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 2023, where he spent just one season. He struggled mightily in the Big Ten, throwing for 282 yards and one touchdown against six picks. Sims has completed 57% of his passes in his four-year college career. Meanwhile, he registered 1,341 rushing yards and 12 scores across his 30 college games.
ASU Sun Devils: QB Depth Chart
Signal-caller Jeff Sims should find himself near the top of the ASU football depth chart during the 2024 season. Fellow transfer Sam Leavitt from Michigan State projects as the opening-week starter. Leavitt threw for 139 yards, two touchdowns, and two picks last season and was a four-star prospect in the class of 2023.
Meanwhile, ASU still has holdover Trenton Bourguet. The Arizona native played well in 2022, collecting 11 passing touchdowns against five picks. However, he struggled last year, tossing four interceptions to only one touchdown.
