Former Florida State wide receiver Johnny Wilson officially signs with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Florida State had ten players from its 2023 roster drafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. It is a shame that the College Football Playoff committee did not feel as though this squad was talented enough to compete with the best of the best.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that the Seminoles can do about it now other than move on and grow from the experience. In terms of the ten draft picks, that is certainly something that head football coach Mike Norvell can be extremely proud of.

This football program had experienced heartbreaking lows where some individuals thought it was rock bottom when they lost to FCS opponent Jacksonville State at home in a last-second touchdown. However, the Seminoles have responded since going 28-7 in the past 35 games.

Norvell decided to continue to hammer the transfer portal to add veteran depth at positions of need. That leadership helped the Seminoles be able to begin the turnaround. One player that he brought in was former Arizona State wide receiver Johnny Wilson.

While Wilson was listed at 6’7″, he was not properly utilized and dealt with injuries during his time with the Sun Devils. It did not take long for the big-bodied playmaker to become a dynamic weapon for quarterback Jordan Travis and the offense.

During his two seasons with Florida State, he recorded 84 receptions for 1,514 yards and seven touchdowns. It was unfortunate that Wilson dealt with two concussions during his final season in the garnet and gold. I believe that his statistics could have been better.

There was a portion of the fanbase that questioned why Wilson declared for the draft instead of coming back to Tallahassee for another season. However, when there is an opportunity for life-changing money for him and his loved ones, that is always a valid reason to declare.

Even though Wilson got drafted in the sixth round by the Philadephia Eagles, he has an opportunity to find his place in the dynamic offense. As a wise man once said, you cannot teach size. On Friday, the wide receiver made his dreams come true as he officially signed with the Eagles organization.

Head football coach Mike Norvell has made his presence felt during his four-year tenure in Tallahassee. It has not been an easy road to success but the program has combined to have a 23-4 record over the past two seasons.
