Breaking: Cardinal Are Closing In On Deal To Sign $13.4 Million DB And Return….
As they look to continue to pick up momentum in their 2025 recruiting class the Stanford Cardinal landed another commitment.
On Thursday, Staford landed their sixth commitment of their class, and their third on the defensive side of the ball. Chris Garland, who hails from Buford High School which is wherestarting quarterback Ashton Daniels went, took to the app formerly known as Twitter to announce his commitment.
This past season, Garland was credited with 23 total tackles, a pass deflection, and a tackle for a loss. He is currently ranked by the three recruiting sites, but has been highly sought after. He holds over 20 offers from programs such as Duke, Boston College, Yale, UAB, and Navy among others.
Stanford’s class ranks as the No. 44 class in the country.
2024 COLLEGE FOOTBALL EXPANSION, REALIGNMENT WHO’S IN EACH CONFERENCE IN 2024, AND WHAT’S NEXT? 24 FOR 2024, NO. 21 What if last year at this time you were told the Pac-12 wouldn’t exist as a viable football conference in 2024? Also, the Big 12 would be the big winner in the expansion game, Stanford and Cal would switch conferences – and NOT to the Big Ten – the SEC would be shockingly outflanked, and …Where is everybody?Do you know there are now 134 schools now playing FBS college football?24 for 202424 Expanded CFP Explained23 20 Teams That Haven’t Made CFP22 Meet the New Head Coaches 21 Expansion, Predictions, Who’s Where?Up Next: 2024 Storylines: IndependentsTry asking the average layperson how many teams are in a conference called the Big 12, and how many are in one called the Big Ten. I’ll try to sort it all out for you with a breakdown of every conference, what happened, who’s in it, and what might happen next in realignment. ACC 2024 Schools: Boston College, Cal, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Pitt, SMU, Stanford, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake ForestWhat’s New in 2024: Cal and Stanford found a home in the ACC – jacking up the ACC’s overall academic profile and adding the fourth-largest media market in the country. SMU is a part of the ACC, but it paid to be in and won’t be a part of the full revenue structure until 2033.What’s Next for 2025: Lots and lots and lots and lots of stuff involving lawyers, and the grant of rights deal – to spare you the boredom, ACC schools are locked in to a media deal until 2036, and it’s hugely expensive to get out – and lots and lots and lots of talk about Florida State, and a few others, wanting to be somewhere else. This is about to get tricky, and it’ll last into 2025. The ACC might dare some of the schools – like Florida State – to leave and find a massive Big Ten or SEC-like deal that probably won’t be there.ACC Expansion Prediction: IF money isn’t an object, or someone figures out how to release the teams, the Big Ten will stand pat for the moment – unless North Carolina and Virginia are an option – and the SEC will be more lukewarm than you might think. The Big 12 won’t be able to step up with the payouts the schools might like. The big call? Nothing. The loopholes that many are claiming are in the ACC deal won’t be as big as expected. AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE 2024 Schools: Army, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, USF, UTSAWhat’s New in 2024: SMU is gone to the ACC, and Army signed on to be a part of the American Athletic Conference fun. What’s Next for 2025: HOLD THE LINE. There aren’t a whole lot of options out there for the Power Four conferences to grab. The Big Ten and SEC won’t poach any AAC schools, but the Big 12 could be lurking around Memphis and Tulane, and it’s absolute realignment malpractice that USF isn’t already in a Power Four conference …AAC Expansion Prediction: The AAC loses USF to the Big 12, or possibly the ACC, and Memphis and Tulane are in a few discussions. Also get ready for a few days of social media clickbait banter about trying to add Oregon State and Washington State, but that won’t go anywhere. BIG TEN 2024 Schools: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA, USC, Washington, WisconsinWhat’s New in 2024: Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington … welcome aboard. With the new additions comes an 18-team format with no divisions. The mega-media deal kicks in as the Big Ten now enjoys its perch as the biggest dog in the college conference yard. What’s Next for 2025: More and more and more greed. And why? Because who’ll say no?Get ready for a lot of schools in other conferences – like, all of them – complaining about not making Big Ten revenue, and the disparity will only get worse.Big Ten Expansion Prediction: Don’t be shocked if the Big Ten starts floating trial balloons about the idea of paying out and swallowing the cost of grabbing a few ACC schools – North Carolina and Virginia, and maybe Clemson, Miami, and even Florida State being in the mix.Meanwhile, once the Big Ten finances and deals become a bit more focused, expect way too much talk about breaking away with the SEC to form a super-league, the Big 12 will be on lockdown trying to hang on to its big University of (insert state) schools, the Notre Dame noise will get louder, and why?The Big Ten is too big, and over the next three years it’ll do whatever it wants. BIG 12 2024 Schools: Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, UCF, Utah, West VirginiaWhat’s New in 2024: The Big 12 got everything it could’ve dreamed of, and more. Instead of raiding the Mountain West, or bringing aboard UConn, it benefitted from the Pac-12 implosion getting Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah. No, there’s no superstar cornerstone program with Oklahoma and Texas gone, but the conference was able to moneyball its way to replace Giambi and Damon. What’s Next for 2025: Lots of fun down the road if the conference can keep everyone happy. The Big 12 needs to find its niche this year and be ready to roar in 2025 on the field and in the fight for attention. It’s not going to take all the bluster from the Big Ten and SEC lightly, but …Big 12 Expansion Prediction: Expect a ton of rumors. It’s not like Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah were jumping for joy over the Pac-12 meltdown, and very soon all of them – and Colorado – are going to want the extra revenue and exposure of the Big Ten, or maybe the SEC. Basically, the conference loyalty will always be tested. However …The Big 12 went from being dead and buried after the loss of Texas and Oklahoma – remember when the American Athletic Conference was supposedly going to raid the Big 12 cupboard? – to alive, thrive, and full of vive. The conference wasn’t exactly playing 3D chess, but it set itself up well and pounced when the shocking dream shot was there to take.If any big conference is going to make a move, it’s the Big 12. USF, Tulane, Memphis will all be in discussions, the idea of Oregon State and Washington State will soon become more appealing, and watch out for San Diego State to be in the equation. CONFERENCE USA 2024 Schools: FlU, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, UTEP, WKUWhat’s New in 2024: Kennesaw State joins from the FCS world, but for now, there’s a stunning level of stability after all of the chaos and changes from last year.Overall, it’s in a good spot. Not a rip, but most of its member schools aren’t attractive enough to be poached, and there’s just enough juice to the league to start thinking bigger. What’s Next for 2025: Delaware will come in from the FCS to join in 2025.CUSA Expansion Prediction: It’ll be the home for FCS schools that want to make the jump in status. After not getting Army – it went to the AAC – the conference should stand pat for now. Don’t expect any of the members to be gone for 2025. INDEPENDENTS 2024 Schools: Notre Dame, Oregon State, UConn, UMass, Washington StateWhat’s New in 2024: Oregon State and Washington State are unwilling independents – sort of – and Army is off to the American Athletic Conference. What’s Next for 2025: UMass is off to the MAC in 2025.Independent Expansion Prediction: There’s nothing to this for now, but watch out over the next year for several schools to explore what life might be like as an independent. No one will actually do it, but too many schools are too grouchy about their current media deals to not give it some thought. MAC 2024 Schools: Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami University, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, Western MichiganWhat’s New in 2024: The conference ditched the divisions for the full conference format, but other than that, nothing. What’s Next for 2025: Welcome back, UMass. The program left the MAC in 2015, went independent, and now will get back together in 2025.MAC Expansion Prediction: Strangely stable in an unstable college sports landscape, the MAC isn’t taking on FCS programs, it’s getting back UMass, and no one seems to be hitting on any of the league’s members … for now. MOUNTAIN WEST 2024 Schools: Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State, WyomingWhat’s New in 2024: Stunningly, nothing. There’s a nice partnership with Oregon State and Washington State to play six games going this season, but for the most part, that’s it.What’s Next for 2025: Again, stunningly, nothing at the moment. However …Mountain West Expansion Prediction: How the heck did the Mountain West get through all of THAT unscathed? The Pac-12 should’ve locked in San Diego State – who was all but gone before everything got totally screwed up from all sides – UNLV, and others to take proactive measures, didn’t, and melted down. The Mountain West will try protecting itself, fortifying a stronger deal with Oregon State and Washington State, and … it might not matter. There aren’t a ton of attractive Group of Five programs left. Watch out for the rumors around the Big 12 being interested in Boise State, SDSU, UNLV, and maybe Nevada. It’s not crazy to think the American Athletic Conference could be interested in Air Force.OR, Oregon State, Washington State, the Mountain West, and maybe the American Athletic Conference form some sort of a rock-solid alliance to at least create a bigger and stronger overall product. That won’t keep any of the top schools from bolting if they get the call, but it would at least be something. PAC-12 2024 Schools: Oregon State, Washington State (but not really – they’re independent)What’s New in 2024: There is no Pac-12, BUT, the former Pac-12 schools in other conferences, and independents, will keep the Pac-12’s 2024 bowl affiliations and ties. What’s Next for 2025: Nothing for right now, but there’s new leadership, Oregon State and Washington State keep the branding, and there’s a chance to rebuild, but …Pac-12 Expansion Prediction: Does it matter if a league made up of mostly Mountain West schools is called the Pac-12? There’s a way to do this for basketball, but not really for football. The prediction is that, somehow, the Mountain West and Pac-12 form a decent partnership, just because, but it won’t really matter.BTW, from last year’s version of this piece, here was one of my scenarios …Expansion Prediction: Pac-12 Commissioner George Kliavkov can’t pull it off. The media deal not only isn’t lucrative enough, but what’s on the table is so laughable it forces the main members to pack up and move. Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah go to the Big 12, the Big Ten figures it out with Oregon and Washington, and outside of raiding the Mountain West, the Pac-12 is a shell of its former self. SEC 2024 Schools:Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, VanderbiltWhat’s New in 2024: Welcome in, Texas and Oklahoma. With two additions the league just got a whole lot nastier. That, and now no more divisions. 16 teams, the top two play in the SEC Championship.Bless your hearts to anyone outside the normal SEC blue bloods when it comes to pushing for that early December trip to Atlanta. What’s Next for 2025: Nothing much. There’s an outside shot the SEC pries away an ACC school or three, but …SEC Expansion Prediction: The prediction? All will be quiet on the expansion front for now, but …Don’t sleep on the idea of the SEC looking into raiding the Big 12.The possible ACC schools might not be the slam-dunk you’d think they’d be – even if they could get out of their grant of rights media deal – and the conference really does appear to be just fine right now, but …Throwing this out there. By 2026 watch out for the SEC to try expanding its reach a bit. It blew it by not getting Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah last year – forget about not being forward thinking enough to offer something tasteful to Oregon and Washington – and those four might be itchy for something bigger in a year or so. SUN BELT 2024 Schools: Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, James Madison, Louisiana, Marshall, Old Dominion, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Texas State, TroyWhat’s New in 2024: Not a whole lot. Outside of five coaching changes, the conference is shockingly stable. What’s Next for 2025: Who needs to change? Almost everyone in the Sun Belt went bowling last season, the conference was fun, James Madison is great, the two divisions make the league more interesting, and the 14 teams in place seem fine, but …Watch out for the league to be proactive in 2025 to find ways to solidify what it created, like …Sun Belt Expansion Prediction: More Conference USA. The Sun Belt raided the closet a few years ago for the top CUSA programs. Soon, FIU, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, and WKU could be in the mix before the American Athletic Conference goes after them.
