Sad News: Utah Jazz Head Coach Will Hardy Has Been Issue….
The Utah Jazz own the 10th and 29th overall selections in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft and they could be eyeing on a former Marquette Golden Eagles superstar. Utah missed the playoffs a season ago with a 31-51 record in the Western Conference.
The Jazz with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, according to Krysten Peek of Yahoo Sports has them selecting forward Cody Williams from the Colorado Buffaloes, who is 6’8″ and weighs 185 lbs. It will be interesting to see whether or not Utah keeps both first-round selections, but this is a team that is rebuilding after they traded away Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves a couple of offseasons ago.
Utah is trying to compete in a very tough Western Conference over time and it will not happen overnight. Other than Williams, who else could the Jazz take in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft?
Krysten Peek Of Yahoo Sports Has the Utah Jazz Taking Marquette Golden Eagles Point Guard Tyler Kolek With the 29th Overall Pick in the 2024 NBA Draft
As of late, Kolek will be trending towards being a late first-round pick rather than being an early second-round draft pick in the NBA. Tyler Kolek was the Big East Player of the Year in 2022-2023 for the Marquette Golden Eagles and he helped them win the Big East Regular Season title and also the conference tournament in the same year.
Even though Marquette did not win the conference this season because of the dominance of the UCONN Huskies, Tyler Kolek was still named to the All-Big East First Team. He helped the Golden Eagles get the number two seed in the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for head coach Shaka Smart.
The reasoning Peek gave as to why the Jazz would select Kolek 29th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by saying:
“The Jazz hit on Keyonte George last year and could use an older, established playmaker in the backcourt with George as they continue their rebuild. The lefty point guard finds creative ways to finish when needed and was one of the best passing guards this season.”
He is 6’3″ and weighs 195 lbs. In 31 games this season for the Marquette Golden Eagles, Tyler Kolek averaged 15.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 7.7 APG, 0.2 BPG, and 1.6 SPG. He shot 38.8% from three-point land and also shot 49.6% from the field. Kolek also shot 85.1% from the field.
Tyler Kolek could be a good backup option at the point guard position off the bench for the Utah Jazz behind Keyonte George. George in 75 games played last season for Utah averaged 13.0 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and 4.4 APG.
